I thought Toure needed more footspeed but he's actually the fastest guy on the team. Because he's so long, he covers more ground. He's at the point right now where his arms do more work than his legs, although he did a really good job of cutting off guys trying to drive the baseline.

He took a lot of 3 pointers, which is clearly his favorite shot, but he does have a good mid-range shot. Of the ones he took, I think he made every one of them. He's not a slasher but maybe that will come in time because he does have decent handles.

Speculation on this board is that he is a redshirt candidate to add more bulk and inside game. Thoughts, Dan?

    • He and Kyles are very different. Kyles didn't become a proficient 3 point shooter until his junior year and is very athletic and an active rebounder. Coming in, Derail may be one of the best pure shooters on our team next year. I'm reluctant to say this, but his offense is more like Sean Ogirri, in that he plays most of the game floating around the perimeter. At 6'7" Derail will have to become more aggressive going for rebounds and boxing out because we'll need to take advantage of his height. As for the redshirt question, it's hard to say. He's a more natural baketball player than some of the guys on our team. It may come down to who's ready to step up and take the reigns next year.

The minutes are there at the 2, 3 and 4 for whoever wants to step up. Hawkins sounds like he may be competing for the same spot. I would even go so far to say the Derail is more of a 2-3 than a 3-4.

        • If Derail takes one step inside the 3 line, he will not be like Ogirri.

Ogirri frustrated me with his defense and reluctance to play inside the line.

            Good ole Sean "Cheech" Ogirri.

That's what we're looking for. That's the ticket.

              • I'm really hoping that he can be the type of player we saw from Drake's Ben Simon's last night. If Derail has a similar shooting touch and can work half as hard as Simons, we'll have a very good player on our hands.

                • I wonder, if he will ever go 1-12.

I would hope that stat line is unrivaled.

That was a tough night for DK, especially when you consider the 1 was layup on an offensive rebound IIRC.

DK no doubt has some ability. What he has not been able to do is develop any consistency and at this poiint in his career that is unlikely to be forthcoming.

Hopefully, Derail will not run nearly as hot and cold as DK does.

l'm guessing he'll probably be a little more athletic, too.
