I was incorrect in saying 6 of 7; the Lutz column says:
"WSU men’s basketball signee Derail Green scored 38 points Tuesday in Houston Klein Forest’s 71-62 win over Spring. Green, a 6-foot-7 forward, made 7 of 8 three-pointers."

Wow--this is music to thine ears. Sharpshooters are welcomed here with open arms!!!!!!! Maybe these 5 players we have signed will be the Shocker version of the Fab 5 of yesteryear? No, they are not ranked as high but we shant look a gift horse in the mouth and we won't.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
I'll take 83% from the stripe all day long. His A/TO ratio is not bad for a guard, even better for a forward.
The staggering number is drawing 27 charging fouls. That means his BB IQ is high and he moves his feet well. I remember so well the Praylow twins on defending the fast break running head down to a certain spot, manning the spot and turning around to take a charge. IQ.

So i saw derail play tonight. Here's the deal: he's clearly a perimeter player, a small forward, not a 4. He loves to shoot the three ball. Tonight he maybe took 15 three point shots and less than five two point attempts. Finished the game around 30 points, about 18 were from the three. He got off to a slow start tonight and missed most of his shots first half. Second half he was around five for six from the three. Good defender, good length and athletism. Needs to get stronger and learn how to bang a little more underneath. There was a quote earlier that he doesn't know how good he is. To me, he plays like he doesnt realize he's 6'7". He doesnt attack the rim, he's more of a finesse player. He's not comparable to any of our existing players but if i had to pick one it would be like toure with a better jump shot. I met him after the game and he actually apologized for his first half performance. He's really excited to join the program and has been following the team this year. Seems like a really great kid and i'm glad he's part of the shocker family. If you want more info, fire away.
I think he'll be able to defend the three. At certain points in the game last night he was defending the opponents point guard. Footspeed and positioning is ok but will be improved as he gets more coaching. I saw Toure play in high school and saw very similar characteristics on defense. I thought Toure needed more footspeed but he's actually the fastest guy on the team. Because he's so long, he covers more ground. He's at the point right now where his arms do more work than his legs, although he did a really good job of cutting off guys trying to drive the baseline.
He took a lot of 3 pointers, which is clearly his favorite shot, but he does have a good mid-range shot. Of the ones he took, I think he made every one of them. He's not a slasher but maybe that will come in time because he does have decent handles.
In your report I thought your were talking about Kyles. My fear is that Green will be our new "designated shooter from a player who is wasting his God-given talent." Tell me he won't be another DK?
