Why? It's not that I'm saying he can't or won't see minutes there, but who will play the PF and C for us?

Hall can play...28 minutes a game at either position. Orukpe, maybe 18 at the 5 position. That's 46 of 80 minutes meaning that someone has to play 34 minutes for us at the PF. James O'le Anacreon? I don't think we'll see more than 15 minutes per game out of White. Will we be better playing Henry U as the back-up center so Early can play the 3 or getting more minutes out of a three guard line-up and Early at the 4? What about Derail Green??? Would you put Green at the 4 and Early at the 3?

Hawkins? Maybe, but I see him as an equally viable SF to Early.

I just don't see the post depth to allow Early to guard a Colt Ryan or Grant Gibbs when he should be guarding Kenny Harris (I know he's a senior and won't be back) and Doug McDermott. His size, athleticism, and guard skills will be an even bigger match-up problem for those guys.

When I look at the roster for next year, it makes much more sense to start Early and Hall at the 4 and 5 and bring in EO off the bench to either spell Hall or spell Early and move Hall to the PF.

Whether they are a 3 or 4 is more important for defensive purposes than offense. If you notice, Hall and Stutz have to work to make sure they don't get in each others way when posting up. If helps if one can post up and go out on the perimeter and both of these players can do this. On defense, from what I've heard from the coaches, both of these players have the speed and quickness to go out on the perimeter and chase players like Weems and even smaller guard like players (Ellis did a nice job of this last year). Hall is getting better at this too if you watch him, but he has to work at it and still has some struggles.

Who are "they?" Stutz and Hall or Early and Hall?

Ya, I re-read it and I was talking about Early and Hawkins are both very athletic, and versatile on the perimeter and in the post, especially on defense.

But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

              • Wow....the other team says they lost 6 players at the semester to academic issues. That's gonna leave a mark.

                • I just noticed that he averages 3.4 blocks per game. Wow. When Early and Orukpe in the lineup our opponents are going to have difficulty getting uncontested shots up.

And if Anacreon keeps developing, you can throw him in that mix. I just have a feeling that James is going to just break out next year. He has so much athletic ability.

The big question with James is can he learn to play a DI system on offense and defense? He has great athleticism and great instincts for the ball, but playing within a team concept requires more than playing instinctively. You have to know your responsibilities, where you are supposed to be on the floor, etc. Right now, James will make big time plays like a steal and fast break or big blocked shot, only to follow it up by allowing a layup to the other team on a backcut where he got lost drifting towards the ball handler rather than staying with his man off ball.

If he can figure it out, the talent is there, but with being a JUCO recruit, he doesn't have the time to figure it out that a freshman with the same issues would. I think he is pretty much a boom or bust player. If he figures it out, he will be a playmaker. If he doesn't, he will be a non-factor.

Like you said about the juco player having less time than a 4 year, that is his big issue right now, is there enough time for him to develop.

He reminds me of David Kyles back when DK was a Freshman and Sophomore. So much athleticism but couldn't translate it to success on the court in a game situation.

                            • And outside of a few highlight alley-oops each year, I still don't think Kyles has figured out how to get the most out of his athleticism.

I agree with TMH on Anacreon. I do expect him to be more of a factor next year, but I think he basically plays the role of this year's Jake White.

Kyles, if he could have ever really figured it out could have been an absolutely dynamic player. He's turned into a pretty good threat from outside, but never learned to use his athleticism and get to the rim. He's the type of player that should shoot a ton of FTs. But doesn't because he won't be aggressive on that end. He's turned into a fine player, but never did put it all together.

I don't know what to think of Anacreon for next year. I could see him getting less minutes next year than Jake White this year. That may force Early to play some PF.
