To clarify, Andy Katz was reporting on coaching openings with Doug Gottlieb interviewing. Again, still not worried...

You can listen to the interview @ espnradio.com. It was at approximatley 10:46.
Andy Katz said he confirmed independently the facts of the article in the Gazette and commented the following....
"GM at Wichita in serious play for Iowa job..... Interesting call, a way to change the style of play and get fans excited."
Gottlieb commented that he was an inventive recruiter but that GM was his own best salesmen and has never gotten over the top at WSU. He also implied that GM liked to hear others talk about himself too much.

Mumblings and rumors from the Iowa fan forums sure doesn't give much cause for concern, if anyone even had such to begin with.

Talk about the twitter posting of a guy who is the editor of a legit Iowa sports fan magazine:

Actual "tweet" (feel like such a hipster 'tard for using that word) they're referencing above:

Of course then you have this post:

Who freakin knows. No sense in getting caught up in it. What happens...happens. All I know is right NOW Marshall is the coach at Wichita State. Until I hear a press release stating otherwise then I am gonna be looking forward to seeing what we can do next year!

                    A couple of things......

1)Gregg made a big deal after year 1 at WSU that he was never going to comment on other jobs, so don't expect any comment now.

2)There is nothing to see here. Move along.

well....I suppose there will be a team meeting called soon if it is true.

Has Danny Ainge been seen in town? When something big goes down for WSU athletics he always seems to be in town.

                        • Here's a great case study in how complete BS gets repeated and takes on a life of its own in the context of a process like this coaching search.

Yesterday, Scott D of the CRG posts a blog entry saying he's spent all day chasing down a rumor that Marshall is a serious candidate for the Iowa job. He provides information from his efforts that all suggests it isn't true, and certainly doesn't serve to either verify it or imply that it might be true.

This morning, Andy Katz says on ESPN that it looks like Gregg Marshall is a serious candidate for the Iowa job, and he cites the Cedar Rapids Gazette as the source of that information.

                          • The Iowa job is a horrible one and only a Coach desperate to get out of his current situation would go there.

Some successful non-BCS conference coach will jump at the raise. Or for someone it'll be a return home, or a chance to rebuild a winner.

Iowa isn't a good job right now because Alford and Lickliter maimed the program. But there is money and a currently dormant fanbase there that will be attractive to someone.

What's kind of crazy to me is that Alford doesn't do well at Iowa, heads to New Mexico and look what he's done. Granted New Mexico isn't in the Big 10 but it's not like they couldn't compete with most of those teams. Makes me wonder why he couldn't get it done at Iowa. I would think that would make coaches think long and hard about it.
