  • I didn't think his record was bad at Iowa. I thought Iowa just got tired of his shat.

    EDIT http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2807516

152-106 at Iowa in 8 years. Recruited Pierre Pearce, leading scorer for Iowa and now probably leading scorer for his prison team.

Gregg was also a candidate for the NM job in '07.

He had winning records in 7 of his 8 seasons at Iowa and went to post season play in 6 of 8 seasons.

Guess I never realized he did that well. You sure wouldn't have thought he did with the way the fans talked.

After their last 2 coaches I think they want anything OTHER than a mid-major head coach. LOL

No way in hell Bruce Pearl leaves Tennessee for Iowa. I may be wrong but that job has got to be the worst job as of now....things may change.

Some successful non-BCS conference coach will jump at the raise. Or for someone it'll be a return home, or a chance to rebuild a winner.

Iowa isn't a good job right now because Alford and Lickliter maimed the program. But there is money and a currently dormant fanbase there that will be attractive to someone.
I agree with you. I should have been more specific when I said it's a "horrible job". 'Horrible' as in 'horrible basketball school'. No Sweet 16 in 11 years and they haven't gotten past the Sweet 16 in 23 years. That's not so hot for a Big 10 team... at least imo. Plus they took Ralph Miller from us all those years ago. I wouldn't want them to take two coaches from us.

                • and its official, Marshall did in fact turn down an interview with Iowa.

Marshall said Iowa contacted a representative of his last week to set up an interview this week in Atlanta.

"I respectfully declined that invitation and have had no contact with them since," Marshall said. "Hopefully, this will end any type of speculation."

I love the honesty. Whether it's said or not, that is what every coach who isn't employed by KU, Duke, UNC or UK means.

                        • Marshall is an employee of the non-profit corporation that does most of what we think of as the Athletic Deparment, the WSU Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Their records are public too, though.

                          The following is for 2009:

                          Base compensation
                          715,154

                          Other compensation
                          41,1455

                          Deferred Compensation
                          19,550

                          Non-taxable benefits
                          6,279

                          TOTAL
                          $782,438

Note that this is the total from WSU ICAA.

I don't think radio, TV, camps and the like are a part of this.

                          • As a 33 year season ticket holder for UNI men's basketball, it's a pleasure to make a post on your fan board. Your coach has an GREAT thing going at WSU. Same as Ben Jacobsen. Good schools, good conference, GREAT players. I'm glad our coach elected to stay.

I love the rivalry that has evolved between UNI and WSU. In the end though, we all agree that Mo. Valley BB is the best.

Good luck next year and in years to come.

                            • Excerpt from shockwaves;

I went on a Des Moines radio show on Wednesday afternoon to talk about Marshall as a possible candidate at Iowa, as well as Northern Iowa’s win over Kansas. They were so desperate they had me on even after I told them I didn’t know much more than the rumors and hadn’t, at that point, talked to Marshall. The host asked me about concerns about Marshall being able to recruit in a high-profile conference. My thought, after getting off the phone, was that our perspectives were quite different. His question was “Is Marshall good enough for Iowa?” My thought was “Is Iowa good enough for Marshall to leave Wichita State?”

Wonder if it was Matilda's show?

I believe it was the Murph and Andy show on KXNO (same station as Matilda). Murph and Andy would be equivilent to Bruce and Bob.
