If Indiana St is healthy next year, I see them in the mix as well.

I think if Iowa offers Jacobson 1-1.5 million, that he would be a fool not to take it. If moving up is his goal, that is.

Iowa would be an awful job to take right now. I'm sure he could a better job if he waited around.

Personally, I think Jake will be every bit as good if not better than big brother Adam before he is through.

Alhegbe will provide plenty of leadership and toughness.

Replacing Eglseder and Farokmanesh may be tough. But hey have some nice looking young players in Sonnen and Dunham.

O'Rear will continue to be a pain in the ol' rear.
Do you think this http://www.desmoinesregister.com/art...-for-athletics will have an impact on Ben Jacobson's employment next year?

Wow. I had no idea that UNI got 40% of their athletic budget from the state ($4.6m out of a $11.4 m budget).

That is highly unusual. Most division 1 Athletic Depts. try to be self-supporting and get little or no state aid.

Cutting their athletic budget by 40% could have a HUGE impact. On the other hand, if UNI can keep winning they might be able to make up that money with private funds and sales from UNI gear.

I'm not sure if it's that good if you're gonna get fired in a couple years. Sure, the money is good, but I don't know how good it will be if he ends up like Licklikter. I think a good example would be Turgeon, who I know had other BCS offers, but took the A&M job because the team was established and he had a very good chance of success.

I forgot...how many extra points do you get in a basketball game dependent on how much $$$ your coach makes???

A good rule for any coach to follow would be this: If you are going to move into a bigger conference, take a job where the previous coach is leaving because he was hired by a bigger school, not because he was fired.

You have to look at what's guaranteed. The bigger jobs aren't always the smartest finanical moves.

You have to give Turgeon credit, who gave up a guaranteed $7.5 million for a 2,3 year deal at Texas A&M.

Just remember Steve Robinson who gave up a great job at Tulsa, with a $500K salary that was surely to increase, only last a few years at Florida State and is now a $150K per year assistance for Roy Williams at UNC.

I would definitely agree with that.

For some silly reason, when we hired Coach Marshall, I estimated we would have him for about 7 years as we did Turgeon. I really hope he stays longer but who knows?

Looking back, Kentucky sent Tubby packing who ended up at Minnesota and doing pretty well. Enter in Mr. Billy Gillespe to Kentucky who had a short-lived honeymoon if at all. This rings true to the Mad Hatters observation above. Coach Turgeon did get a huge raise and I think he has Danced every year since his departure at A&M and still in search for a Sweet 16. Enter Coach Marshall here who is actually slightly ahead of where Coach Turgeon was in this rebuilding process at this juncture. At Winthrop, assistant Randy Peele took over and has done a respectable job.

Seems like it was a 50% increase. But my memory is super faulty.
