Soooooo---what about next Season? Will we be new and improved? Coach Marshall is a solid recruiter and is focused on that process right now. Are we ready next Season to win the Valley and Dance? Discuss.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

We SHOULD be favored to win the Valley next year and I see no reason why that shouldn't happen.

Marshall will bring in somebody with the final 'ship that can help us.

I was talking to mvcchamps after the game about next year and the depth we have is pretty impressive. It'll be fun to keep tabs on what happens over the summer with the development of our younger players.

DWill can run this team just fine. I really no longer worry about who's starting at the point next season.

Murry, Hatch and Kyles all return. Richardson sounds like he'll be able to contribute and I look forward to seeing what he has to offer. Another 2/3 guy who can shoot. Could we be subbing in one shooter for another? Hatch/Richardson could make a nice combo.

I can't wait to see the progress KJ makes. He can and will be a dangerous player at some point.

Curious to see how Hamilton has come along. I've liked this kid since I first saw him at a camp a few years ago. Strong, high energy and athletic. I don't expect him to play much next year as our post depth is crazy, but I think he could have a pretty bright future.

    Ehimen!

Stutz has shown great improvement over the year and is getting it. Another off season attacking the weights and working with/against Ehimen will only make him and Ehimen better.

It's a shame we're still talking about Durley's potential to dominate a game. I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever really see it or continue just to get flashes of it.

I like Blair. Great 6th man.

We should make some noise next year.

One thing that intrigues me (and this is entirely speculation) is whether there is any chance that Kyles could see some time backing up the point with Richardson available at the wing. Kyles played point in high school, and looked his best this season when Clevin was out and he was doing more distributing of the basketball.

I've wondered about that too. He seems more comfortable doing that sometimes. I just want to see him more aggressive on offense no matter where he's playing. The kid has potential and the athleticism to cause problems for other teams.

IMO, one of the most important factors in how we do next year is how much are guys are willing to work on their games in the off-season.

If most of them attack the off-season like Graham did last year we should be in pretty good shape.

Stating the obvious, once we get to next season the biggest key will be how well we do replacing Clevin. If we can do that and each of the guys coming back next year works hard in the off-season and steps up their games a notch we will be hard to handle and we should have plenty of depth.

A much better schedule provides us with a great opportunity to build a good resume.

I couldn't agree more... IMO, JT has reached his ceiling. He'll be an up and down player again next year; however he'll never fully reach his potential in a Shocker uniform. I'm sure he's a great kid... he just doesn't have the drive to be a 'SPECIAL' player. I hope he reads Shockernet and proves me wrong.

I'm not sure I understand where these sentiments are coming from. JT has improved every year so I have no reason to believe he won't continue to do so. Yes he had a problem with work ethic as a freshman but Marshall has been clear that he is now one of the hardest workers on the team. I understand these type of comments about a player who regresses but so far that has not be JT. Fan's expectations outstripping a player's performance are not the same as a player failing to get better.

Are you saying you've never thought he had the ability to be a force and first teamer? Or do you really see the improvement and drive in him that he'll finally get there next year? Nobody is saying he hasn't improved or doesn't have value. Just that he has yet to dig down and tap into his real potential. At least not on any kind of consistent basis. At this point I have to question if he really wants that or understands how to get it out of himself. He'll be a valuable part of the team next year and nobody is saying otherwise. But at this point I don't see him being one of the top 5 or even top 10 in the Valley with what he's shown.

What are you all hoping for in terms of individual improvement over the summer?

                  Murry - improve shooting
Manigault - earn playing time and improve shooting
Hatch - hold the ball less and be looking to score
Durley - consistency and man-to-man defense intensity
Ellis - shorten shooting stroke/rhythm and return to high release
Williams - slow down and be under control, strength with ball
Blair - shoot more 12-17 foot shots when open.
Stutz - 15 -20 lbs and jumping - strength holding ball
Kyles - shooting and decision making - increased full-time focus
                  Felter - quickness

The redshirts and recruits, I have no specific comments. Oh yes,

Am I the only one hearing Marshall say that we might not just be one and done in the recruiting dept.? I think it is highly likely another scholarship will open, coming from KM, AE, or one of the redshirts, maybe. AE stock dropped to zero in the past month. KM may be ready to get better next year, or he may think it's time to move on. Or GM may think it's time for someone to move on. Doug Gotlieb on M&M this morning, talked about how 6 really fine Kentucky players lost their scholarships last year. The important thing he said was, "This is a business, no one is safe if the Coach believes there is someone who can serve the business better out there." Greg isn't out recruiting just one player this week.

                      Some challenges for next year:

PG - Yes, Williams has improved, but at the very least, we do need a SOLID backup that can play immediately. As an example, DWs four fouls in 15 minutes last night.

3pt Shooting - As a team this year, we were average, shot too often, and will be without our #1 (by far) 3 pt shooter next year. For example, Utah St is excellent from 3pt, .419 as a team, but averages only 16.6 shots per game. The Shocks shoot .357, average 18.2, and generally, shooting a high number in a game, was a bad sign. Murry last night was 5-5 from inside the 3, but 1-8 from the 3. Hatch will need to be more consistent from game to game and hopefully, Richardson will be effective.

Player Leadership - I don't believe this issue was really resolved this year (see Ramon last year). Hannah was more of the quite leader type and eventhough there was glimpses from others, I think this lead to much of the inconsistenies from game to game and half to half this year.

Depth - We will have a lot of it and need to use it to our advantage. Can we?? Will we be able to play with more players rotating in and out? Every player will need to be a "Charlie Hustle" within their part of the game plan. Wear down and demoralize the opponent.

Stop the Penetration - Not doing this effectively got us into a lot of trouble. Don't depend on EO for help, as he will probably see very limited minutes. Could KJ become an outside, lock-down type defender? DW and "whoever new" at point will need to make this a priority, as will the team as a whole.

Be the Penetrator - This part of our game was lacking. I didn't expect it from Clevin, I was surprised at Graham's effectiveness at it, but thought Murry and Kyles would do a lot more of this. We were not able to get our opponents in the same kind of foul trouble many of them were getting us into by penetration. This added dimension would also open up the outside from kick-outs for better quality shots and more opportunity for dunks inside when defenders come to help. I guess that why I'm hoping that Carter will join our forces. I can see him becoming that pest to other teams that dogged us so much of the time. The fact he shoots a lot of FTs at a high percentage is very sweet as well.

I believe we still have a long way to go. All of us.

Nevada should be ashamed they lost 12 games this year.

I think I heard John Calipari use the word "hater-ade" yesterday. He should have used Cheater-ade, or perhaps douchebag-ade.

The last 2 seasons have ended with a brutal slap in the face as to how far we still need to go to obtain the athleticism to compete at the highest level, and that is painful to deal with, year after year.

It IS going to be a very, very, VERY long off-season. I wish all the kids, coaches and staff the best and thank you for a very enjoyable season.

Get or remain healthy, work as hard as you can, enjoy what you are doing and where you are doing it, or do something else....otherwise it's not worth it, not even close.

Murry - Improve his shot and selection a bit.
Hatch - Do a better job at using ball screens to get a good shot.
Durley - More consistency and get used to playing more at PF.
Ellis - *sigh* work on his cheers from the bench. Seriously, he appears to be in regression and Hamilton/Orukpe can possibly give us what he does next year.
Blair - Work on finishing and knocking down mid-range jumpers, post defense.
Stutz - Stay on course - work on rebounding position and making his post moves sooner.
Williams - Get stronger. Learn when to slow down and when to kick it in gear.
Kyles - Like Durley, more consistency.
Manigault - Play to his strengths, develop a mid-range game.

Improvement is difficult to quantify, but 10% across the board would make us a pretty salty team next year.

I think it dangerous to have expectations that this team will be the favorite to win the MVC. This team is going to have to fill Hannah shoes and get better in all areas.

To me next year looks to have so much promise but so much danger. If this team start reading their press clipping and doesn't work hard in the offseason to improve their game then WSU will find themselves at risk being passes over by teams that have improved greatly.

There are some positive trend lines for say Stutz and Williams that say they will be able to handle bigger roles. Durley has to become more mature and bring his "A" game every night, not just one half of a game, sometimes.

I was disappointed in Kyles and Murry development. WSU needs Murry to be the go-to guy for this team. Murry has statiscally the same type of year as his frosh with more minutes. Kyles has shown his promise, but will he get what it takes to succeed?

Blair, Hatch and Ellis are probably maxed out IMO. Where Hatch may bring dividends is through his leadership and on-floor hustle. Then there was Manigualt who seemed to have a wasted year.

New guys for next year will probably contribute some, but how much and where:

Hamilton - after his preseason hype I don't know what to expect. We were told no way would he redshirt because he was so good - well he redshirted.

Richardson - will he be that consistent deadly 3pt shooter that other teams have that WSU doesn't?

Orupke - mixed reviews, looks like he could be that guy who stops all dribble penetrations, but WSU doesn't need to be playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end.
