First, we have FOUR avoidable MVC losses (CU, DU, BU and EU). That's a lot. And had we just won at UNI, another top 25 win and very doable, and just won one of those four games I just mentioned, we win a co-championship in the MVC.
Second, we did play Pittsburgh and had we won, we would have faced Texas. Two more chances for top 25/50 wins.
Third was our loss at USU. It seemed to me we lost that game long before we played it. (complaints about the time, location etc.)
Clearly we can improve our non-con schedule and we have done that next year.
Regardless of the quality of the MVC next year, there really are no excuses for 2010-11.
Excellent points. But we were closer to the NCAA than all of that combined. We were winning the tournament championship game with about 8 minutes to go. We were only 8 minutes away from the Valley being a two-seed. We just didn't have any steam left in the engine due to having to play a tougher bracket and having a key contributor on the bench injured.
At any rate all of your other points are excellent and if we execute and win the season then we would have had the easier bracket and two chances to make the tournament.

Ive been thinking about this Euro tour next year and I am excited about the exposure the school will get and some foriegn recruits we can attract....We need some Sasha back in the chuck...
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"
How likely is a deal with KSU given that we scrimmage them already? I have not heard whether that will continue but I know it was said both coaches liked the scrimmage deal they worked out. IMO, KSU isn't a very likely game given that, but it could/should happen. I think WSU should try and get something going again with OkSt or maybe even see what we can do about Arkansas? (not a big help but better than most of our games and still within a bus ride 5 hrs)

5 hours for a scrimmage I sure as hades hope not....or were you talking about a scheduled game....I dont think anyone needs to ride 5 hours for a scrimmage...I
I think you can look at the KSU/WSU scrimmage in the past as a good thing and one that would bode well for setting up a game based on the relationship that the scrimmage helped foster. I have no idea if this is a yearly thing or if its just happened the one time as I had understood before.....

The scrimage has happened for the last 2 years, one here, one there. It was made publicly known that both coaches liked the scrimage instead of playing a 2nd exhibition game. However you do bring up a good point about the relationship possibly building to games being played.

and we beat KSU by 12 this year....... just saying :D
Sorry if I ruin anybody's day, but I just don't care any more about HAVING to play KU or K-State in basketball.
If they don't want to play us, fine.
Let's play some good teams that want to play us. Let's work on just getting better.
I was humbled when I heard Kennedy and HCGM say that this was the 10th time WSU has won 20 games in the history of WSU, If I heard it right.
I think this topic keeps resurfacing because of this fact: the need for a team like WSU to play good non-conference competition is obvious, and if we have a strong claim to play any good non-conference competition, it's the non-conference competition located in the same state.
That, and "the fear of playing the Shockers" is something that WSU fans can hold over KU and KSU fans' heads.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.
I am all for better non-con competition, but losing to better teams does not necessarily make you a better team, but it does provide the opportunity to review your mistakes and correct them afterwards. The problem is though every team you play has their own gameplan, which includes scouting your team to begin with.
It is - and always has been what you do with what you got. Are you saying an 18 win season, but losses against decent non-con teams is better than a 26 win season, but weaker non-con competition?
And I really don't think the Shockers could have beat KU or K-State this year.
I'm hoping that's some misinformation being reported. We've already played at their place. They owe us a neutral site game. Unless they've renegotiated the deal to include another 1-1 or 1-1-1, then somebody needs to explain.

No doubt about it. If our staff just gave a neutral game away, that would be quite embarrassing and dissatisfying.
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

I don't think an 18 win season against good competition is better than 26 wins against bad competition. But I think 22-23 wins against good competition is better than a 26 win season against against weaker competition. I highly doubt us playing a harder schedule this year would've equaled 8 less wins.
