I agree with Doc that this is make it or break it time. History hasn't been on our side and with Drake still in the back of my head, I just can't get optimistic about this one. What have the Shocks done to make anyone realistically think they're gonna go down there and win?

I hope to God I'm wrong but I just can't see it happening.

Championship teams don't play like we played in Des Moines. This question has been answered already.

        I can't believe I'm responding to this asshat, but;

Championship teams dominate teams like UNI and end 14 game winning streaks.

Championship teams end home court winning streaks like against MSU.

Championship teams lead games for 38+ minutes time and time again.

I didn't say WSU was a championship team...I said championship teams win games like the 2 in front of the Shocks right now.

Time WILL tell.....I am not overly optimistic either, but I'll tell you this: I AM going to enjoy it, win or lose and unlike you when we DO win, it will be sweet to drink from the "Victory Chalice" while you ponder the next bump in the road.

          Book it Danno! :good: :good:

P.S. I still haven't recovered from the Creighton and Drake debockles and I have a suspicion the team hasn't either... it's time to exercise those demons.

I was truly hoping this year we could break one of the two losing road streaks with CU or SIU, I'm really hoping at least one of them comes true this year.
It's tough to win playing 5 against 8 in Omaha.
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

This isn't the SIU of old. If there is a time for us to win one at their place, it's now. Granted we had a major choke in Des Moines, but we also had a great road win at MSU. Which team shows up? We can win in SIU this year and I think we will.

This isn't the Southern Illinois of old but neither was Creighton. SIU is a lot more like the SIU of old than Creighton is like their typical selves, but we weren't able to get it done up there. Historically SIU gets even more 'referee advantage' down in Carbondale than CU does in Omaha.

                This game will be tough.

Really? If the SIU of old is the one that finished 1st A LOT, went 17-1 and won 50+ home games in a row, allow me to point out

SIU has lost at least twice at home, this season, IN CONFERENCE.

SIU currently is staring directly at the play in round of Arch Madness in 8th place.

Creighton, on the other hand, is alone in 3rd, 1 spot below where they were picked at the start of the year.

Which program is closer to their "typical selves"?

In the post-game after IlSU, Marshall discussed the DU game extensively and how that performance was unacceptable. Then mentioned having players watch a lot of film and identify things they did wrong. Then guaranteed the Shox would be ready for SIU.

I'm going to trust the coach on this one. At some time I think he gets through to the team that it takes extra effort - actually extra everything - to win on the road. This would be a good time for the team to figure that out. It will happen.

                      WSU - 82
                      SIU - 74

I beg to differ. The defense that SIU used to run was stifling. You were doing well if you made it to the 3 point line--their guarding would keep you 2-3 feet from there and they were merciless. They might have gotten some favorable calls, but they also flat got after it.

They also were lucky to score 60 points most nights. Basically they had just enough offense and let their defense do the rest.

This year's SIU is much different. More offensive/shooting minded. Defense has taken more of a back seat. No comparison to those old teams. CU hasn't been playing like a 'team' consistently this year and that's there biggest weakness. Their style of ball is slightly different because of their lack of inside players...

We are on National TV again and it is important that we look good.

But, I'm afraid this is one of the road games we are going to lose unless Stutz, Ellis, and Blair, combined, can again score 18 or more points.

                          SIU - 64

Here's the deal. If picking the Shocker's to win such games as these is wrong--I don't wanna be right!!!!!!! Can u dig it? Groovy!!!!!!! The Shocks can and will house-break these Salukis even though they will be grabbing, mugging, scatching, and hounding us for 40 minutes. Yikes!!! This is no time for us to play soft and we must be strong with the ball. During the 3 Valley road games we lost, we were vulnerable overall inside. This is a game that we will win and gain some extra momentum and confidence as we march forward. SIU plays very respectable and tough at home. However, they are a young team and these Shocks will find a way to win.

Our margin for error was pretty thin before the Drake loss and after its obviously even thinner...Hopefully the team finally understands it cant go thru the motions and expect to win even against lessor opponents on the road. Teams having down years are looking for something to hang thier hat on and thats us. We arent used to being the hunted but we better soon or it maybe a should of could of end to our year...I trust in HCGM though so Im hoping for a win...I cant put predictions down though as it has been bad luck every time I have
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"
