  • SHOX @ SOUTHERN ILLINOIS PREDICTION THREAD

I haven't freaked out about the last couple losses, I think they are just growing pains for a relatively young team. We can go to SIU and win and I believe we will. We have the best point guard in the conference and he will carry us again.

    Wheat Shox: 65
    Some odd dogs: 57

When was the last time we won @ SIU? I've looked all the way back to the 2001-02 season and could only find losses.

Gotta look further back than that......Not this century.

Sometimes that happens when you are everybody's Super Bowl, even when you are terrible.

It's been a long time since WSU has won at Carbondale, and (I'm hoping I'm wrong) this isn't going to be the year that WSU snaps that streak either. Not after the meltdown at Drake.

              SIU - 65
              WSU-58

              I really hope I'm wrong

Too close to call. It could go either way. It depends on who shows up that day. If we show up, hustle and play our game of patient offense waiting for good shots and D'ing it up, we could very well win. If we don't, it could be a long day.

C'mon Shox! We need this one! The UNI game is going to be even tougher, so it'd be nice to get this one going into that one.

I think the Drake game is exactly why we'll win. They know how unacceptable that performance was and the aren't going to let it happen to them in C'dale.

I fear that too. The loss @ Drake hurts big time, but maybe it was a just what this team needed to go on the type of run we all think they are capable of doing. I've seen lots of teams turn a bad loss into something very positive.

I've been to Carbondale and even seen a game in their arena (not vs WSU) and I'm baffled by why we struggle so much against them there. Anybody have any ideas to why we just cannot seem to put anything together @ SIU?

Championship teams win these games. Our fate is decided in the next 2 games.

It doesn't take a huge reach to say that Missouri State wins at home Saturday and then if we could beat SIU on Sunday, then Wednesday is essentially for all the marbles in Crap Falls. Win and we're in 1st with the unchangable tiebreaker. Our final 6 appears to be a favorite for 5-1 so we'd be sitting pretty to say the least.

Of course, 0-2 over the next week and we're wondering what in the hell happened and how did we start talking about Thursday again?

Our losing streak at SIU is on par with our streak at Creighton. Just deplorable. This team is Jeckyl and Hyde on the road. How does it go, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior? Then I will unfortunately pick SIU.

I was truly hoping this year we could break one of the two losing road streaks with CU or SIU, I'm really hoping at least one of them comes true this year.

I wouldn't call us Southern Illinois' superbowl. They have physically beaten us as well as everybody else in the MVC like rented mules over the years in their building.

Championship teams don't play like we played in Des Moines. This question has been answered already.

                              Really?

Let's look at the top 4 in the rpi right now:

                              Syracuse: LeMoyned
                              Kansas: Cornelled
                              Duke: NC Stated
                              Villanova: Templed

Not one team is left undefeated. We've only lost 4. Probably not the 4 you'd have picked to start the season, but 4 none-the-less.

For a comparison closer to home:

                              UNI: DePauled

It's pretty rare that a team does, in fact, ever achieve a perfect season. Not to mention--WE WERE PICKED 5TH, NOT 1ST. Putting ourselves in the hunt for a chmpionship after all the adversity we've dealt with in the past 3 years is pretty amazing. It leaves me wanting more.
