Aaron plays "hair-on-fire" defense which doesn't usually show up on a score card. He rebounds okay, alters shots around the rim (top 4 on the team in blocks), and is good for a couple baskets a game. As it stands, he is 6'9" and runs around the perimeter like a guard on defense. You can't teach 6'9" and you certainly can't teach quick 6'9". Missouri State was an unusually poor game for him.

Aaron Ellis will always be an X factor.

Everyone is entitled to a few bad games. That's life. I'm sure that he wasn't trying to have a bad game but he did seal the win at the end jumping on that ball.

I would like to see Aaron dunk more often though. I've seen him on a fast break and he can literally put his whole elbow in the basket.

Agreed. It seems he fears getting called for a charge so rather than take one step and throw it down (with possible and-1), he settles for a 6-7 ft jumper.

I think I'll start another thread about redshirting Toure Murry next year. He isn't shooting 3's like he used to. Maybe he should lay off a year to work on that.

Anybody remember Ogirri's shooting slump? There was a time when 'O' couldn't even hit the rim.

Oh, I'm sure he was hitting the rim... just the wrong rim. :innocent:

I love blair as much as anyone...but I think Zombie's (AE) defense is better. Besides...Gabe is a sparkplug off the bench. I think Valley coaches have to gameplan for The Stutz/Blair combo more than just about any other bench players in the Valley.

I think the whole starter thing is overrated. Who cares who starts? Blair gets more minutes than Ellis anyways.

I also agree to the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" crowd. I also am in agreement that Ellis is a quality defender when he DOESN'T foul.. and more importantly, when he doesn't foul STUPIDLY.

                          ... No really, deuces.

If we were to evaluate Blair against Ellis on merits alone, Blair would certainly 'deserve' the starting job. But as has already been mentioned, there are many other factors in play.

Blair being one of our top-5 players, yet content to play on the second line, is a big reason why our effectiveness doesn't drop off when we go to the bench. I think if Blair were a starter and Ellis came off the bench, you would see a bigger variance between the two lines. The balance between the two lines in regards to scoring and defense is a big advantage for the Shockers and helps to magnify an already impressive team depth.

Besides, I wouldn't feel very comfortable having Ellis and Stutz out on the floor at the same time. The way it is now, Durley covers for AE's weakness (scoring) and Blair covers for GS's weakness (athleticism).

Ellis starts to jump the ball! With that said, my five is Stutz 5, Durley 4, Kyles 3, Murray 2, Hannah 1.

Hatch > Kyles at this point.
