Mr. Ellis obviously is a Jekyl and Hyde character on the court. He plays very well defensively, but is a liability on the other end of the court. I would like to see Gabe Blair get the start and Ellis come off the bench and see how that works. We need 10 points a game from that starting position and are not getting it. What do you think?

As I posted on the redshirt thread HCGM sees his play much differently than the critics.
The Shocker fan base is very basketball saavy and usually appreciates the guys who do the dirty work to make the team's offense and defense run right. Ellis is clearly one of those guys and I suspect most of the WSU fans recognize and appreciate it.The fact that man is master of his actions is due to his being able to deliberate about them.-- Thomas Aquinas

We've been in a "if it's not broke don't fix it," situation. Blair has been an outstanding 6th man.
The audio to Shockervision last night was the Bear's radio announcers. For some reason I had to listen to them a couple of years ago when the Bears beat the Shockers. I like them better last night. The play by play guy had an interesting comment when the Shocker's were situational subbing Blair and Ellis at the end of the game. He said although Ellis starts, Blair is the better player. I'm not going to argue with him.In the fast lane

Marshall has talked about how he wants defenders to not put a hand in the face, but a hand by the release point, and Blair as consistent as Ellis at doing this."Cotton scared me - I left him alone." - B4MSU (Bear Nation poster) in reference to heckling players

I love Gabe and I also love Ellis. But for me I say if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Ellis is the starter and he has spent years working on it and earning it. Now he can go lose it but I don't think we are there yet. Blair has his own holes in his game to consider as well.
It is a beautiful 1-2 punch. when a team feels good because ellis is going to take a blow, they then get blair. I love that.

Something that I almost put in the LAST Ellis thread: Yes, he should have hit the free throws at the end last night, but notice who disrupted the inbounds pass and dove on the ball to ice the game.
Aaron Ellis is such a scary defender, that even with his relatively weak offensive game he is a net benefit on the floor. This is especially true at the start of a game or a half, if only for the purpose of disrupting the other team from getting into the flow of their offense. We have enough scorers on this team that any one of them could get double digits on any given night, but do we have a defender as intimidating as AE? Would YOU want to see those 12-ft limbs flailing at you?
Personally, I think there's a Kevin Garnett-type player in there just waiting to get out, and we very brief glimpses of it, like that alley-oop jam during the Bradley game. I think he's just a mental switch away from really tapping into it. Maybe we'll never see it, but even now his role as a starter is well-founded.
