In the long run, it may be one the best things to happen to the team? It certainly gives the younger players a chance to develop and allows Toure to get more comfortable in the PG position.

That is not bad, if it provides for more solid play from that position to where we are not so dependent on Clevin.

Later in the season, I guess we will find out the answer whether it was good or bad!

The part that was messed up was dotting i's and crossing t's. The AD doesn't do that. That's done by someone at least one and probably more steps down the food chain from the AD. The AD is ultimately responsible, but that comes down to having systems in place to prevent the possibility of what happened.

The new rule about certifying amateur status came down while Schaus was still in charge. It was his responsibility to set up a system for ensuring compliance and then a system for double-checking that system to make it bullet-proof. Even that probably went down the food chain, but Schaus should have had oversight and signed off on whatever procedures were enacted.

That did not happen and Sexton happened to be in charge when the system failed.

It is not possible for Sexton to have personally evaluated every system in place in the athletic department in the time he's been there. Even if that was all he had done since taking the job.

Aargh, I respectfully disagree. Any new leader of an organization orders a comprehensive evaulation of all NEW processes to ensure fiduciary controls and compliance issues are followed. They can be broken down into critical areas, thus focusing on the more important areas first.
I believe that compliance issues are important.

ADES has been in the job for approximately 2 years - well enough time to have conducted key process evaluations of all critical areas.

Having written that, I too have no vested interested in seeing ADES fail. In fact, I badly want to see him succeed. However, this is simply an additional example of someone who does not YET have the administrative know-how, leadership, or AD experience to successfully run an Athletic Department the size of Wichita State.

I'd be more comfortable with his progress if he simply took ownership on his various snafus. That would prove to me that he has the desire to learn from his mistakes and become a better "manager" of his department.

The certification that was omitted was for the 2008-2009 season. At the time it was supposed to have been submitted ADES had been on the job for less than 6 months I believe.

Ahhh... Good point Shockball. Excluding the lack of communication to the media and fans, ownership, and taking a certain amount of accountability, the 6 month time frame might have indeed been too little of time for ADES to have conducted an audit.

I'm confident that HCGM will endeavor to turn a negative into a positive the best he can.
