Only two student athletes out of the whole university. My question is why only two and does any of the blame fall on the two athletes? As for the athletic dept yes they should of caught this.........

Chitown_Shocker, agreed!
In the long run, it may be one the best things to happen to the team? It certainly gives the younger players a chance to develop and allows Toure to get more comfortable in the PG position.
That is not bad, if it provides for more solid play from that position to where we are not so dependent on Clevin.
Later in the season, I guess we will find out the answer whether it was good or bad!

The part that was messed up was dotting i's and crossing t's. The AD doesn't do that. That's done by someone at least one and probably more steps down the food chain from the AD. The AD is ultimately responsible, but that comes down to having systems in place to prevent the possibility of what happened.
The new rule about certifying amateur status came down while Schaus was still in charge. It was his responsibility to set up a system for ensuring compliance and then a system for double-checking that system to make it bullet-proof. Even that probably went down the food chain, but Schaus should have had oversight and signed off on whatever procedures were enacted.
That did not happen and Sexton happened to be in charge when the system failed.
It is not possible for Sexton to have personally evaluated every system in place in the athletic department in the time he's been there. Even if that was all he had done since taking the job.
I believe that compliance issues are important.
ADES has been in the job for approximately 2 years - well enough time to have conducted key process evaluations of all critical areas.
Having written that, I too have no vested interested in seeing ADES fail. In fact, I badly want to see him succeed. However, this is simply an additional example of someone who does not YET have the administrative know-how, leadership, or AD experience to successfully run an Athletic Department the size of Wichita State.
I'd be more comfortable with his progress if he simply took ownership on his various snafus. That would prove to me that he has the desire to learn from his mistakes and become a better "manager" of his department.

Ahhh... Good point Shockball. Excluding the lack of communication to the media and fans, ownership, and taking a certain amount of accountability, the 6 month time frame might have indeed been too little of time for ADES to have conducted an audit.
I'm confident that HCGM will endeavor to turn a negative into a positive the best he can.

It's bad enough it happened (still inexcusable but I digress) but the verbiage rolled out sounded almost like KC11's good buddy Obama.
The only quip left out to complete the spin would have been refer to the issue as a "teachable moment." 8)Above all, make the right call.

I might change "manager" to "chief executive", but I am nit picking.

Take off the tinfoil hat, deflate your helium ego, and get over yourself.
Something tells me the people with the ability to actually DO something about the athletic department faux pas don't effectuate their power by posting crazy tirades on internet message boards. Which leads one to believe that you know absolutely nothing about what happened, what caused the mixup, or what the solution may or may not be.
Just like everyone here (and as I already stated), I'd appreciate a little more mea culpa from Sexton. Sure, it may or may not have been on his watch, but he's the man in charge when the problem surfaced. But jumping to conclusions (something you've perfected in your interesting Shockernet existence) is a great way to appear like a giant fool. Congratulations. The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

When the day comes that you sit back and do a little self reflecting, and you find yourself differing, constantly, with the likes of RDR, 'Ref and Maggie (for instance), go home, switch to decaf and seriously rethink your life.
You want to shout "crazy" at myself, 'Fever, '11, or some of the other whackjobs (no offense intended guys), fine. But when you are at odds against these 3 a lot, and you are, then it's past time to pin the note on your windbreaker and sit around watching the dogs chase the funny bunny all day.
