I could be wrong but I think that GM will want to begin establishing roles for when Hannah comes back. I agree that you don't like a freshman to start at point.

I will echo many thoughts that the defense was pretty bad.
I liked the comment by the Newman coach "we could have won the game but we'd still be 0-0 to start the season." I was thinking along the same lines...but I'm glad Newman didn't beat us. A few goofed up layups here and there for Newman, a few more FTs made for Newman, no more easy dunks for Stutz, and the outcome could have been very different. What I watched was a fairly talented but "skilled" Newman team show up to play a basketball game, and the Shocks showed up and hoped to flex some muscle and exercise few basketball skill and come away with a win.
I don't expect Stutz to get easy dunks like that during the season. I don't think the Shocks will shoot FTs like that all season, nor do I think the opponent will miss as many bunnies when given the opportunities (especially on the road.) The Shocker defense was not all that great. If the Shocks are going to pressure the ball 23-26 feet from the basket and get beat on a dribble drive with nobody to help out on defense, we will pay for it when we play more athletic teams.
I am actually kind of disappointed in the progress of some players. I'm happy they're tall and athletically gifted, but that's all I have to say about them, other than they have "potential", even after 1, 2, or 3 years of playing. Will we still be talking about their potential after they've finished their Shocker careers?

Newman caught a couple of bad breaks on 3 balls, which went in and then out.
I was surprised that David let Newman's guards beat him. He sorta played prevent defense with them. The Derby kid had his way with David. I think the kid's last name is Steven. I suppose he is part of the well known Steven clan."Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

I thought Davids big problem was being too aggressive at times and leaving himself in poor position when he failed to get a steal.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking

I don't want to make too much of it but DW's style of play and good shooting ability remind me a little of Stephen Curry. Now, I'm not predicting that he will average 20 points a game as a freshman (partially because we have so many weapons he will not be allowed to hunt his shot nearly as much as Curry was) but his height, wiry build, quickness, quick shooting release, shooting touch from the line and from three, his ability to drive to the basket, take players one on one, and create shots are similar. This is after one game, so again, I'm not predicting a career like SC's but I'm very intrigued to see how much he improves this year.

“Demetric is a defender, a relentless scorer and he plays with a chip on his shoulder,” Coach Fair said by telephone. “He’s super competitive and is a diamond in the rough for Wichita State with a high ceiling.”
