  • so remind me again what the point of calling Lawrence "the Rainbow City" is...? is it to make yourself sound like a small-minded bigot, or am i just missing the reference here?

i came over here with a pretty acceptable, and accepting, attitude toward the situation, but i guess like i said in my first post, message boards just bring the crazies out of the woodwork, so i'm going to give your fanbase an easy benefit of a doubt. i don't get my feathers ruffled easily, but apparently some people in the WSU fanbase truly hate KU (an easy comeback here would be "i'd have to think about KU to hate them" - but a-ha! you're in a KU thread, so nice try). i'm glad there are some level-headed posters here (thanks KC) who explain the situation from a WSU perspective better than those that simply use derogatory names and randomly mention the few KU loses that they've had over the years to teams that aren't traditional powers....

besides a few defensive posts (some a bit overly so, but not by much) by KU fans over here, i feel like we've been pretty fair in explaining what we think may be the reasons for not scheduling WSU from a KU perspective. posts like "cause Bill $elf i$ afraid of u$" are pretty childish, don't add to the conversation except in an annoyingly fishing way, and just make the poster look silly. so give it up.

    oh yeah, and 10 pages...success!!!!!

    • I'd love to see the Jayhawks come into Wichita to play WSU, but...

The best way to get certain competition to play WSU at Wichita is for WSU to be successful. I realize a lot of people feel entitled for KU, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, (or whomever) to come to Wichita to play. But the bottom line is why go into a very tough place to play (whether it's Koch or Intrust) and play a team that is 130+ RPI. It really does provide an argument to "Nothing to gain - everything to lose".
The Shockers will see great competition come into Wichita to play once HCGM has the Shox as a CONSISTENT top 30 team (similar to the baseball program). At that point, the Shox CAN make the argument that the opposition is "afraid" to schedule the Shockers in Wichita.

Sadly right now, the Shox really don't deserve for a KU type team to come to Koch or Intrust. However, I do believe in the future of the program and you will see those aforementioned teams come into Wichita. Until then, just win baby...

It's called SHOCKERnet for a reason. This is OUR board. I stated valid reasons why I dislike KU and always will. Nothing will EVER make me root for them at anything. They can go to he!! as far as I'm concerned.

          • I still think I'd rather see WSU play Oklahoma or OSU every year, instead of do what KU would want in order for there to be a game scheduled.

            • I kinda agree. OSU gave us a 2 for 2 a few years ago. That was a fun series to watch, regardless if we only won once.

This is just opinion, but I believe the reason why ORU and Tulsa do not play us is that we fight for the same recruits. WSU is in the unenviable position of being located smack dab in the middle of Big 12 country. The recruits that do not go to the Big 12 or nearby Arkansas are then squabbled over by us, Tulsa, ORU, and UMKC to name a few.

Should Tulsa and ORU begin a series with us and we start to whoop that butt on a consistent basis, this might benefit WSU in the recruiting process. Again, just my opinion.
Disappointing to think you'd throw away the history between you and a rival just over potential recruiting.

So who do you consider to be WSU's biggest rival now? Missouri State?
Personally, I feel Creighton is our biggest rival in both major sports, basketball and baseball. MO State is a close second, but none of us like Dana Altman, and WSU vs CU baseball games have traditionally been very heated.

Switching gears, Veritas is exactly right. Until WSU becomes a consistent winner and NCAA tourney team, we will not sniff top BCS teams coming to Wichita. We would have to be the midwest version of Gonzaga in order to do so. They have established themselves and now can get home games against top tier teams. UCONN and Memphis I believe go to their place this year. Wouldn't we love that.

                • Gonzaga only gets those teams to play them in Key Arean in Seattle. They don't go to Spokane.
