Part of the difference is that I'm a KU fan first. I'm a graduate and a season ticket holder. I follow them to most of the post season tournaments and was in San Antonio. Like most KU fans, before I lived here I really care about WSU at all. That's not meant to be a slam but just a statement of fact. The teams have only met in anger once (a game WSU won) so WSU just really don't matter much in KU's world.
As such I have no reason at all to have any bad feelings about WSU. So when I moved here it only seemed natural to follow WSU. Heck they even had a Jayhawk as a coach. Then when we started streaming the games online I found myself having to pay more attention to when games are on.
I'd say most KU fans share my feelings. They don't really have any feelings about WSU but what they do are generally good. WSU gets lots of love on kusports.com all the time. Yes they get a slam once in a while but most of the time when a thread comes up it is mostly positive.
I guess the long and short of it as a KU fan that live in Wichita why wouldn't I be a WSU fan? I can't see any reason I wouldn't be.
