If a player hasn't signed I don't believe that they can announce that they're here. Now, they can focus the camera on them at some point and those educated enough in recruiting and who pay attention to who's visiting when could give them a wonderful welcoming :D

Coach as always said some funny and interesting things. Nothing too much of a surprise but interesting to see his emphasis.

HCGM amply praised how hard JT Durley was working, at practice, in the game, and in the classroom. All that was great to hear. :clap:

Coach said one assistant remarked to him that playing against Ramon would make for "a long, miserable night." :whistle:

Coach said if people have trouble standing until the Shockers allow a bucket maybe they could do jumping jacks or other conditioning to prepare. :lol:

One worrying thing was the trainer apparantly told HCGM that turf toe never really goes away--that AE might have to deal with it for a long time or even his whole life. Can this really be so? That was very surprising for me. Still coach seemed to think AE could play soon and it would mostly depend on how comfortable he felt playing with pain. Coach also said he thought of AE as one of the best 4 or 5 on the team and he just has to work at finding him minutes since his natural position is at a 4 behind Ramon.

Marshall said he was interesting in redshirting Felter but that it would depend on one or both of AE and MG being ready for the start of the season. He also said redshirting has to be a two-way street (as poasters on here recently suggested).

Marshall said he likes to have a 9 or 10 men seeing playing time in a game. That made his earlier comment about an 8 or 9 man rotation seem kind of off the cuff.

I like the sound of this. I would love to see at least 9, possibly 10 get action in most games.

I think an 8 man rotation means 8 guys averaging more than 15 minutes a game. There will probably be two more that see 4-12 minutes a game.

Either myself or one of my friends ask a question involving KU and his response was he couldn't see KU ever scheduling us under any conditions. Apparently he had tried to put together deals with them on a couple different occasions but Self essentially said it will never happen. Of course at that time Self was a little bit on the hot seat and WSU was flying high.

The resistance to ever scheduling WSU again predates Self (and Turgeon). The last time they played was not a good time so I'm sure there are many at KU that would want to veto it. Keep in mind they had played often for several years before that game but afterwards they swore never again.

Actually, I think KU put an offer on the table about 10 years ago with Smithson of a 2 for 1 and Smithson turned it down. Smithson wanted 1 for 1.

That may have been true at the beginning of Turgeon's coaching career at WSU, but it wasn't at the end. Remember the games at Michigan State and Syracuse?

It was the year of the Michigan State game. Originally we tried to get KU to play us, but they said no so we moved on and found Michigan State.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State play Tulsa.

why was that game in 92 so bad? What made KU say never again?

Well I wish I could remember all the details but I just don't so don't quote me on any of this but this is how I remember it. I've looked and looked for some place this is documented but never found it. I'm sure it made the Eagle at the time but they don't have their archives available that far back.

I think there were three main issues:

1) There was some disagreement over how many tickets KU would get. KU claims they were told one number and then when it came time to deliver WSU only gave them another number that was like 10% of the first number. Problem was that KU had already sold the hell out of the first number to various alums in the Wichita area. That meant they had to go back and basically pick favorites among those that had bought tickets.

2) There was some issue over the the condition of the visitors locker room. I think it may have even been that there was no visitors locker room available for KU. The KU players had to change in the hall or something like that ;-]

3) The student section was sort of out of control. Basically they were being pretty nasty (yelling personal things and stuff like that) and then things got heated and stuff was thrown at KU players. I think part of this was because they thought KU had run up the score (KU won by 30)

Some of this may have just been that Roy Williams was always sort of a whiner but I remember at the time the consensus was that it was sort of out of control and that WSU was messing with KU. I seem to remember the writeup on it being that the KU players didn't feel safe.

KU did return the favor a bit the next year though in Lawrence. Ran up the score even worse (won by 49). This was also a Roy Williams favorite when he was displeased.
