  • Ellis starting at the 5 would completely shock me. He's barely a 4. IF Ehimen isn't available I'd guess Stutz or Durley would get the start. But I expect it to be between Stutz and Orukpe.
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

Perhaps EO is not just at Sunrise to prepare for tests but to get core-course requirements taken care of.
If that is accurate, how many classes would need to be taken to fulfill this requirement?

This is the most confusing situation that I recall. It seems like there is no info about what he is doing at that school, what needs to be done there, when his "resume" will be ready for submission to the NCAA clearinghouse and when one could expect an answer on eligibility issues. I don't think its anybody's fault per se, but its just kinda hard to follow.

Does anybody know if anybody officially linked to WSU administration has indicated whether or not he is expected to be eligible by this season? What is the latest that WSU allows students to enroll for the first semester?

WSU allows students to enroll up until class starts. It's all a matter of there being room left in the classes he wants to take.

From what I know of the situation, a passing GED score is all he needs to be eligible. I didn't inquire about an ACT score. From what I know, if he still needs to take it, an 18 shouldn't be difficult for him to achieve at all.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

By "eligible", I assume you mean eligible to enroll at WSU, not necessarily eligible to play NCAA D1 basketball?

EDIT: As I understand NCAA rules, if someone enrolls full-time at any school and they haven't been cleared by the NCAA, they are permanently ineligible for participation in D1 athletics. [The only reason I know this rule is that Nebraska just had a similar situation up here. In that case the student (Roburt Sallie) enrolled part-time before being cleared and a Big 12 rule indicated that since he enrolled at all, he was forever ineligible at Big 12 schools. Every article about the situation indicated that if Sallie would have enrolled as a full-time student (as opposed to part time) he would have been ineligible at all schools, not just Big 12 schools.]

          • Of that, I am not sure. I wasn't speaking with someone in the athletic department, so what I am saying only goes for his academic eligibility.

That said, I wasn't led to believe there were any other issues.

            • At the end of the year, Ramon and Ellis were playing a lot together (Ramon may have been the 5). I don't know that. I think that Ellis and Clemente started the game in the MVC tourney together. Anyway, they did play together at the same time so Paul may be right.

              • You may be right. All Paul said was Ellis starting he may be the 4 and Clemente the 5

There are 14 core courses. Remember this is just a nagging concern, something I saw and have no idea of how it will play out.

Nothing has been said by officials about expectations of him being eligible this season. I believe your third question has been addressed.

                  • If I was a betting man I would bet that HCGM will get this done. He's come this far so he is not about to quit. Getting EO out of Nigeria was the biggest hurdle the rest is about going through the clearinghouse process. It's gonna take a little more work but it will get done.

                    • The GED takes care of core course requirements when you pass the test. Thousands of previous students have had a GED before entering college, so Orukpe is not the first to go this path.

The fact that he was able to take the GED so soon after getting here tells me that he is well versed in the subject matter areas. The more pressing issue might the SAT/ACT tests (College Entrance) which are only given at certain times of the year. He will need to be prepped for them, and probably will only have 1 shot at them before the Semptember semester starts.

                      • I totally agree. EO will be a Shocker. I'm just not sure when he will first appear in a uniform.

We are not talking about qualifying to enter college but qualifying through the Clearinghouse for Division 1 basketball. I don't think thousands before have accomplished that with a GED. This is something I read and very possibly there may be waivers and other ways to get around it. As I said, I have not fully researched it.
