  • 2008-09 Roster and Depth Chart

I thought it would be interesting to keep a roster, by position, as things change going into the signing period.

    Basic roster, by position:

    PG: Hannah, Chamberlain, Michael, Preadom
    SG: Murry, Hatch
    SF: Hawkins, Kyles
    PF: Clemente, Griskenas, Ellis, Burley
    C: Durley, Stutz, Orukpe

    Depth chart (my guess):

    PG: Chamberlain, Hannah, Michael, Preadom
    SG: Hannah, Chamberlain, Murry, Hatch
    SF: Hawkins, Ellis, Kyles
PF: Clemente, Griskenas, Ellis, Durley, Burley
    C: Durley, Stutz, Orukpe

    Biggest questions:

    1. Will Gris or Ellis be the first forward off the bench?
    2. Will JT be able to hold off Stutz and/or Orukpe?

My question is should we include Ehimen on this roster even though his LOI is signed but he hasn't come yet?

It would be bad Karma to take him off! :D

This is going to be so wide open and there are still so many unkowns and uncertainties that it will be hard to argue with about anything anyone comes up with.

Still a good chance that one or two of the players on the "current" roster will not be on the roster next year.

I'm looking at Ehimem Orupke as effectively an unsigned player until he shows up on campus.

He signed his LOI on or around 5-15-07. Not sure what the options or possibilities are regarding EO's LOI.

            It's interesting, but Kyles is a 2/1, not a 3.
Aj is probably a 3 on this team.
Gris, Ellis are 3's/and a little of 4.
Clemente will play 25+ at the 4.

See Kyles as a backup 1/trading off at the 2 with Murry.l
            AJ/Gris/Ellis at the 3.
Clemente main 4/ with Gris/Ellis getting little time at the 4.

That's the way I see it currently.

I like playing the depth chart game

PG: Hannah, Chamberlain, Kyles, Michael, Preadom
SG: Chamberlain, Murry, Hannah, Kyles, Hatch, Hawkins
SF: Hawkins, Ellis, Murry, Griskenas, Kyles
PF: Clemente, Griskenas, Durley, Ellis, Burley
              C: Stutz, Ehimen, Durley

According to Marshall, Gris can't play the 3 defensively and he wants Ellis to be more of a 4.

We don't need Kyles at the 1 next year, and it sounds like his skills (great athleticism, not a great shooter) slot him into the 3-spot.

As for Orukpe, I hear there is still much optimism among the coaches that he will be here and progress is being made. Short on details, I know, but I have no reason not to trust the info.

I do expect Kyles to be the 3rd PG on next years team.
I suspect Ellis will play more at the 3 than the 4. But will play both.
I suspect Griz will play very little 3.
I expect Ehimen to show up. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking...

Royal, that's good to hear about Orupke. Let's hope that is the case.

Orukpe's paperwork is in order. He just needs permission from the government to leave. Unfortunately, this permission can be denied at the whim of the person granting it.

The coaching staff is ACTIVELY working this issue. Maybe we will hear something in the next couple of weeks.

Are you referring to WSU/NCAA paperwork or Nigerian paperwork or both?

How do you know the paperwork is in order?

All I'm going to say is that Orukpe must be really worth it, considering we're still dealing with this (when he signed almost a year ago).

Vbird - He was invited to, and performed well, at an NBA camp in Nigeria. He played on one of the better club teams and was a good player. Did I mention he is a legit 7'?

He also can shoot lightning bolts out his arse. Very helpful in distracting other players.

We don't really know how well he will turn out overall, but the potential is there, the NBA scouts agree, and he wants to come here, so we have spot for him.

Lets just hope, for our and coachs sanity. that he gets here soon.

It's interesting that there are 14 scholarship players on these depth charts.

The 5 looks like the hardest spot to project. If the contenders are Durley, Stutz and Orukpe - might one of the FR take a red shirt year? If hard work pays off, I'd put Stutz at the top of the depth chart there unless Durley figures that out.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
