JH4P did you hack my computer? Or did your Russian friends capture that confidential file from my hard drive?

I have not forecasted losses for the Shockers as I want to wait for the official schedule and rosters. I am very confident my projection will be single digit. Just not sure how small that digit will be!

Assuming that the Maui home game gets added to finalize the schedule, I am going with 25-6 going into the conference tournament. In the non-conference portion, I am guessing that a loss will come in Maui and come in one of the Big 12 games. I'll go 5-4 on the road in the conference.

Also, I am surprised that nobody has mentioned this yet, but while we have to learn 11 new opponents as opposed to everyone else learning one new opponent, there are eight programs that will be making their first trip to Koch Arena this year for the first time in a long time (if ever). Coaches will warn them plenty, but those players don't have any idea of awaits them here in Wichita...ESPECIALLY this year! So...I don't anticipate any home losses this season.

            0 losses = 1 seed

30 losses = 1 seed (quality losses are good, right?)

There, that should just about cover it.

They just can't stomach giving us a 1 seed... Yet. 2 losses could land us a 1 seed, but then there's gonna be all the quality losses certain schools will have. That's tough to overcome.

I'd love to see 3 losses land us a 1 seed, don't get me wrong! I'll see happily eat a crow pie if we're at 3 losses and land a 1 seed. I really can't lose on this one. 😂

Just because it is the offseason and this is about as relevant to Shocker basketball next season as any discussion at the moment...

                  From 2017:
                  #6 SOS, 7 losses, 1 seed
                  #8 SOS, 4 losses, 1 seed
                  #33 SOS, 3 losses, 1 seed
                  #89 SOS, 1 loss, 1 seed

                  #19 SOS, 5 losses, 2 seed
                  #12 SOS, 8 losses, 2 seed
                  #17 SOS, 8 losses, 2 seed
                  #59 SOS, 4 losses, 2 seed

                  #5 SOS, 7 losses, 3 seed
                  #40 SOS, 8 losses, 3 seed
                  #50 SOS, 5 losses, 3 seed
                  #74 SOS, 4 losses, 3 seed

                  #7 SOS, 8 losses, 4 seed
                  #21 SOS, 8 losses, 4 seed
                  #22 SOS, 8 losses, 4 seed
                  #38 SOS, 7 losses, 4 seed

                  #3 SOS, 10 losses, 5 seed
                  #10 SOS, 10 losses, 5 seed
                  #28 SOS, 9 losses, 5 seed
                  #49 SOS, 9 losses, 5 seed

*Using KenPom SOS, losses as of Selection Sunday

Now look back at my prediction:

                  8 - 5
WSU should have a top 50 SOS this year. Maybe even as high as top 30. This is how I approached my prediction, and why I feel really good about a 3 loss Shocker team getting a 1 seed.

For what it's worth, and just for perspective, in their first season in the Wildly Expanded East (Omaha = east of Lincoln, apparently), the Jayboys were 14-4 in league play and handled conference champ Villanova; and 27-8 overall. And that was with Doug ("I block fewer shots than Conner Frankamp") McD, plus a Valley roster of guys who could play H-O-R-S-E all day long but had no clue how to reach the second weekend of the NCAA.

The American is a different league, but not necessarily better than the 2013-14 NBE, and WSU is better than that CU team was. They also have Marshall, although not Chris Jans to help out. We'll see how all that translates, but some of the high loss numbers I'm seeing in this thread surprise me, even from ShockerNet.

Shocks do have to stay healthy, though. We saw two years ago how dramatically a season's prospects can be changed by a few key injuries (e.g., FVV, Shamet, and Grady).

Also, for what its worth, I expect WSU's overall SOS to be as strong or stronger than 2014 Creighton's was. AAC won't quite equal BE (though even that will be closer than some might think), but OOC will be stronger.

                            2016
                            Oregon, #34 SOS, 6 losses, 1 seed
                            Xavier, #49 SOS, 5 losses, 2 seed
Mich St, #59 SOS, 5 losses, 2 seed

                            This stuff gets me excited.

It's "4", if you use your fingers to represent binary digits.
