Solid hire and looks to bring some serious recruiting chops to the staff, especially for Bigs. There are a couple of Florida bigs that are getting serious consideration from the usual suspects: Emmitt Williams, Silvio De Sousa. Any chance Donnie can change that equation?

The report from a fan that a Jones is tactically deficient is not credible. While head coaches are blamed for everything, they have so much to focus on that has nothing to do with basketball. They Handle daily interviews, daily communications, daily practice schedules, daily review of recruiting, organization, etc. Assistant coaches are delegated on what to do by their head coaching bosses. Then Assistant coaches can focus on recruiting, individual practice regimen, and game planning. Gregg will delegate effectively and Coach Jones will do a great job.

Meh. He was coaching a BCS team with a bunch of juniors and seniors while we were trotting out a bunch of freshmen and sophomores. Other than the Oklahoma State game this past year, that Stanford game was the only other 3G era home game in which the Shockers were clearly outmatched.

He also beat KU before our game with Kentucky. I enjoyed that, so I'll give Dawkins a pass for beating us in one of those quasi-meaningless
                  C-Tournaments.

and i would still like to see some payback for him winning at koch, laughing it up at little ol' state. you betcha'.

                    jankovich needs some payback.

oh, and temple beat wichita state in.. 2012? they need some payback too.

lotsa' love to go around the aac.

I guess I'm surprised more people aren't saying there's a 50 percent or more chance this is a slam dunk hire.

I am sad and happy at the same time to see Jans leave for a step up, but when I consider the following college basketball truths...

New conference across a huge geographical area, 75 percent or more of which is metropolitan areas where the Shocks don't currently recruit (or at least sign from)

Recruiting may be centered around AAU, but there's still a huge influence around knowing connections and local coaches

Biggest recruiting class replacement need as a % of meaningful minutes roster in history (I think)

11 new coaches and systems to scout...

I think this breaks down as 10 percent downside, 50 percent upside, 25 percent slam dunk, and 25 percent "You're right Teddy, that Ace didn't help me... I flopped the nut straight".

*frowns, squints at calculator, looks back at income tax form and wonders when they're due*

                        The answer is yes.

Obviously HCGM likes to rescue dogs and coaches.

Slam dunk hire! Anyone that was expecting Jans' tactical ability and a recruiting guru was expecting us to hire a guy that was already a head coach...we did that!
