To be fair, they don't know Jans like we do. All they know about Jans is he's a basketball coach that had a really bad moment after a season ending loss.

You have to give credit to the NMSU AD for making a very shrewd pick. He was able to make a very quality hire at a very affordable salary level for NMSU. Frankly before the unfortunate events at BGSU, NMSU could not have been in the running for Jans. Obviously the AD was aware of Jans from his MVC association, and it appears was his top pick from the start. It won't take the NMSU fans long to realize that they just got a very good coach and to rally behind him.

Thanks to Chris for all that he has done at WSU, and best wishes to him in his new position. I love it when good people that make a bad decision are given a second chance. No doubt in my mind that CJ will be very successful on and off the court at NMSU.

Does this suck? Yes, especially on heels of Heir's departure. Is anyone to blame? Perhaps. Is it indicative of a larger internal riff? No, it is the nature of the beast.

Honestly, this is why HCGM makes the big bucks. Just as those in leadership positions must step up when the leadership team has a vacancy or prolonged vacation, HCGM will do so as well. It is also an opportunity for others on the talented staff to step up and highlight their potential. This isn't the first time HCGM has had key vacancies during his time as a head coach.

HCGM will continue to "earn" his salary and make use of that jet provided to him for recruiting trips.
