I can't find the perfect thread in which to post this screenshot from MVCFans. Since were discussing the "P-6" I'll just leave this gem here.
Screenshot_2017-04-11-14-12-36.jpgThere are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Other than the absolute nonsense of Illinois State and Mo State joining the Big 12...which is so bad it hurts... I do think they are right to hope for a big merger of the MVFC and the MVC.
Start to identify the MVC with the fact that it is the top FCS conference for football and stop trying to keep basketball at the forefront. That could be a reasonable way to position the conference going forward. If you want to be a top basketball conference, that is probably over. But if you want to be the best FCS football conference that also has decent mid-level basketball, that is very possible. Become known for FCS instead of basketball. Put the Dakota schools in with the rest of the MVC and become a total package that isn't confused with a bunch of membership crossover like what we have now.

"Wichita State addition moves SMU, AAC closer to “Power 6” status" - SMU Daily Campus
When the Big 12 Conference passed on adding new members in October 2016, American Athletic Conference commissioner Mike Aresco breathed a huge sigh of relief. In fact, so did every athletic director in the conference. Ten of the 20 schools considered by the Big 12 for expansion resided in the American. After much courting, none...

"...“We’re trying to convince you, the media and the public, that we’re genuinely the P6. That’s the goal,” Aresco told the Orlando Sentinel shortly after the Big 12’s decision.
The goal of becoming the next power conference is ambitious – maybe too ambitious. A lackluster 2016-2017 that saw the American fail to qualify for a New Years’ Six bowl and all but two men’s basketball programs (SMU and Cincinnati) finish with an RPI below 50 did little to bolster confidence.
The American needed to become more competitive if Aresco’s goal was ever to seem like more than a pipe dream. The AAC needed new energy.
The conference received a jolt on Friday – a literal shock...
...Basketball in the American is not well respected either, but the conference looks to change all of that by adding the best team in the country not playing for a Power 5 conference."

I fail to see any reason why we, as brand new members to the AAC, whose stated purpose by the AAC Commissioner, and fully supported by all of the AAC schools, for taking us into their fold, is to enhance the conference to Power 6 status. should be questioning his/their logic, nor their goals. Especially considering that a P-6 conference rating would certainly even more enhance TV monies and likely recruiting as well.
Are we nuts? All of us should be in full support of our new commissioner, our new conference, and fully support all efforts to attain this or any other goal that improves the sports standings of the AAC.

"University addition creates power six conference for basketball" - The Cougar (Univ. of Houston Newspaper)
The American Athletic Conference added Wichita State as a full member earlier in April, another step becoming a 'Power Six' conference.
By Leonard D. Gibson III April 26, 2017
"Wichita State University basketball will come into the American Athletic Conference, which is worthy of being called a power six conference, as the favorite to win behind five returning starters from the 2016-2017 season that made it to the NCAA tournament..."
