That's the kind of mindset I hope all the AAC schools adapt. I want the AAC to adapt the "Play Angry" mindset. It's the AAC vs the world, and we'll kick everyone's ass.

"Around the American: Looking at the conference’s newest member, Wichita State" - The Daily Campus (UConn Newspaper)

            By Connor Donahue, Sports
            April 10, 2017 - 10:00pm

"The news broke last Friday that the Wichita State Shockers would be joining the American Athletic Conference. Commissioner Mike Aresco spoke to Sports Illustrated the day after the announcement, explaining the move puts the American in position to be a Power 6 conference.

Wichita State’s biggest strength is their men’s basketball program. The Shockers will clearly bolster the reputation of American Conference’s basketball league, immediately becoming one of the top talents alongside UConn, Cincinnati and SMU. Led by talented coach Gregg Marshall in his tenth year at the helm, the Shockers have made 14 appearances in the NCAA tournament, reaching the Final Four twice, the Elite Eight four times and the Sweet 16 six times...."

"— A few traditionalists do not like it that Wichita State is leaving the Missouri Valley.

              — Some wonder how another lull in basketball, much like WSU experienced before Mark Turgeon arrived and later Gregg Marshall, would impact the Shockers.

              — Consider, however, that Wichita State jumps in as the likely American Athletic Conference favorite in basketball next season before ever playing a league game.

              — It gets to restore rivalries against old MVC opponents such as Tulsa, Cincinnati, Houston and Memphis.

              — The fact Memphis and Connecticut are losing players as transfers and losing their competitive edge in the process makes WSU’s entry even more significant.

              — Getting this done without adding football was rather miraculous, and incredibly smart, considering the landscape of major-college athletics.

              — Credit to the WSU administration, and to Marshall, the face of that athletic program.

              — Heck, the face of Wichita."

This will sound ultra-sensitive but interesting first line in that article in an otherwise positive perspective. You know...coming from a newspaper steeped in ne kansas angles and agendas.

Did the author really write "traditionalist" with a straight face...or was it actually a freudian slip really meaning "threat"???

If I remember right, that guy grew up in Wichita, and might even be a WSU alum. He's not one of those NE KS snobs.

Actually traditionalists would be extremely excited to see the Shocks reunited with former Valley members Cincy, Tulsa, Memphis and Houston.

Drake and Bradley or only shells of their traditional MVC glory. None of the other members really have much connection to the proudest days of the Valley.

Good observation, 1972. The current Valley members have some notable history as members of the league (Bird State losing to Magic and the Spartans for the championship, but that was almost 40 years ago; Bradley losing twice in the championship game in the early 50's; and Drake reaching the Final four almost 50 years ago -- and giving Wooden's dynasty a tough fight in the semifinal). But when you have to look to the 70's for your glory, and an entirely different era, you start to wonder if maybe time has passed you by.

Besides, if you want to look back that far, you have Cincinnati of the Valley winning twice in a row in the early 60's before losing a bid for three in the finals against pre-Valley Loyola, and then MVC Memphis State running into a Wooden champion from UCLA in the early 70's. So the AAC's Valley alums have even more ancient history, and almost certainly a far brighter future as well, than the schools WSU has left behind.

Count me in this group. Moving to the AAC with this group of ex-Valley teams along with the prospect of a significantly phrased non-confidence schedule is Nirvana...

"The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee puts a lot of weight on quality wins and strength of schedule, and Wichita State joining the American Athletic Conference helps Memphis in those areas....

                              What this means for Memphis:

Memphis is obviously going to struggle for the next year or two because of the transfer problems. So, for the first few years, the addition of Wichita State could mean more losses for the Tigers. But at least fans get to see a good team come into FedExForum...."
