Whether it's due to pride or principle, if an organization puts their content on YouTube for interested parties (such as fans) to see, but has that product taken and repackaged by someone else who had no part in creating it, they may decide it's no longer worth doing and we may no longer have the original content to enjoy.

This is especially true because, legally, consistency on protecting intellectual property is important. If an organization fails to assert its legal rights over uses that are positive, it may have a weaker case for trying to assert those rights if someone uses the content in a way that reflects poorly on the institution.

When setting up to post on Youtube, there is an agreement that the person posting the material owns the copyright to it. We have to be careful with "pirating" information from YouTube. Cease and desist orders are generally accompanied by penalties for violating copyrights.

I understand the legality of using the materials it just seem ridiculous to be worrying about it on something like this, considering any one that can operate a remote control has most likely violated these laws

Not only do we have a Chik-fil-A in the Wichita State Rhatigan Student Center but if you drive by a Chik-fil-a store in Wichita you will clearly see that Wichitans live by the "Eat Mor Chikin" motto.
