There's a nice colorized one in the Heskett Center... would be a cool alternate uniform IMO.

Graphic designers typically provide three or more options when designing a logo. Some only provide one, and the option is to take it or leave it. But most do at least three.

It's not unheard of for the designer to have a favorite and intentionally make his not-favorites bad as to guide the decision-maker to the favorite. This can happen when the contract specifically asks for three or more options and the designer is used to just providing one.

That said, it's also not unheard of for the decision-maker to pick one of the bad ones.

We seem to have a history of failed "upgrade" attempts; remember THE Wichita State University? It's not limited to the university either; remember the contest for an official Wichita song? The winner had a line something about holding hands on a star-lit veranda...not too many verandas around these parts. The song lasted about a week I think.

The shocker logo in Kirby's has alway been one of my favorites. Far from a failure!

I can't hate that new logo debacle too much. It prompted the Eagle to run a "think you can do better" WSU logo contest.

What was weird about the whole deal is that they went with some generic, volume, out-of-area design group. I don't know a bunch about logo design, but I do know we had (at that time) and still have one of the best in the nation already here in Wichita with the Greteman Group.

If I recall, they used a firm out of NYC that had a pretty good pedigree for sports logo design. Another reason why the final product was so disappointing. Tens of thousands were flushed, err, spent on that project.

Good observation, but it does attempt to provide a 'decent' explanation for "what is a Shocker?"; I would never advocate terminating good ole WuShock. :)
