Yep. Here are Self's Elite 8 games at KU:

2004: Loss to Georgia Tech in St. Louis (as a 4 seed nonetheless)
2007: Loss to UCLA in San Jose, I think (somewhere in the bay...KU fans whined about this one, being a 1 seed and playing UCLA in its home state. Never mind the the Bay Area is a LONG way from L.A.)
2008: Win over Davidson in Detroit
2011: Loss to VCU in San Antonio
2012: Win over North Carolina in St. Louis (they didn't seem to have as much issue with this unfair advantage as a 2 seed)
2016: Loss to Villanova in Louisville (slightly closer than Chicago, another regional site...but still strange)
2017: Loss to Oregon in Kansas City
