  • This game reminded me of most football games you see involving what used to be called 1AA teams (like SIU) against D1 opponents. You might see a halftime score that showed the 1AA team either hanging tough or winning, and then midway through the third quarter, the world rights itself 95 percent of the time, as skill and depth take over.

I got intrigued when I saw the halftime score and decided to tune in, since you never know. Then I got tied up with some stuff for about five minutes when the score was something like 38-34 Shocks. I came back and it was basically over. But kudos to the Braves for at least giving you a game for that half, I guess.

How sad is it that the first thing that came to my mind about an MVC tilt was of teams from entirely different divisions of competition?

    Yeesh.

And (kind of) the same with Illinois State and E-ville: when the Thugbirds finally decided that enough was enough--with about 3 minutes to go--it was over.

Yes - we don't have a third guard without him. Early I felt like DS could be a plus based on defense alone, but he is not good in the half court defense.

No doubt. The Shocks' biggest opponent win (OU) going down at home the way they did yesterday was sobering. Ungh!!! 8 (

You might be correct but let's see how this plays out before we start printing NIT tickets. I am curious to know what the Selection Committee would do with a 29-5 team who lost to co-champion in tournament final. Okay, so I'd rather win 3 in STL and not find out, but until the Shockers have a bad loss, I'm not counting out at-large just yet.

            • Too early to label the MVC as a one bid league.

Probably better than a 50% chance, but not even close to set in stone at this point. WSU and ISUr are both still very much alive for an at-large.

Yep. Slim margin for error, but both are in as of today with about 8 opportunities to be kicked to the curb.

McDuffie is averaging 14 and 6 and shooting .429 from 3
                  Shamet is averaging 12, 3, and 4 and shooting .467 from 3
                  Frankamp is averaging 8, 2, and 2 and shooting .463 from 3

                  Smith is averaging 5, 2, and 2 and shooting .333 from 3
                  Brown is averaging 5, 3, and 2 and shooting .167 from 3

                  • Always hard to argue with a road win.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

                      2. DS another step backwards. Need a healthy AR.
                      3. CJK not ready for prime time. Need a healthy AR !!
                      4. Easy to see that LS and CF are the team leaders
                      5. RK's stock rising a little
                      6. Nine man rotation with a healthy AR
                      7. Big men need to make quicker decisions. Make a move or pass !
                      8. Take care of the ball guys

If Shox win the next 8, plus 1 in St. Louis, they are in. period.

Sure wouldn't want to test that theory by dropping a game in the first or second round of the Valley tourney.

                          • I added "plus 1 in St. Louis" because I too don't want to test what a Friday loss to someone like Bradley would do.

With that said, win the next 9 and lose to a mid-level MVC team on Saturday... no worries. RPI in the upper 30s, KenPom around 20. 27-5.

                            • Rashard Kelly not getting nearly enough credit. kenPom adjD has gone from ~50 to 27 in like 2 weeks. I'd wager most of that is Kelly. If the other juniors had picked up the angry he did....

Conner Frankamp is WAAYYY better since the coaching staff made Shamet the PG.

I don't know what happened to Smith. But it makes the health of Reaves' shoulder more important.

The past couple games Keyser had been gaining some trust and opportunity. He was rewarded with that opportunity in the first half yesterday when the game was still very much in doubt. So. Yeah. I'm still hopeful, though.

If you win a road game against anyone, that is good. If you win a road game against anyone by double-digits, that is really good. If you are WSU and you win a road game against anyone by double-digits with Janssen officiating, that is pretty incredible.

Can we start taking our own shot clocks and clock operators? Just pitch it as saving an expense for the other 9 teams in the league. I'm sure they're all for that.

Do we need some UK and Duke players to blow out knees before the NCAA starts doing something about playing games on ice rinks? It's ridiculous.

                              • I have to admit, I didn't see that coming. I thought the Braves played some excellent D in the first half and forced our team to rally, again, on the road. I believe that just helps this young team grow, helps build confidence, and led to the possible emergence of a much-needed leader, Landry Shamet.

Hopefully they learned their lesson of "one game at a time" and won't be looking past the Bulldogs.
