Here's a classic LOL'er from the BJ board in response to JayPak mentioning WSU would be a good (favorable) matchup for Creighton in the Round of 32:

No thanks. That's like hoping to get Nebraska in the tourney. It's a game where the other team will prepare like it's the single biggest game in the history of the program just for the opportunity to bounce the Jays. I'd rather play a Duke or Kansas team than Wichita or Nebraska in the tourney. Motivation can be a strange thing.

LOLZZZZ. Yes, that would be the BIGGEST game in the history of history as history can get for WSU. Nevermind the numerous Round of 32 games in our history (even recently vs KU) and numerous Sweet 16 games, and Final Fours. NO, THIS P6 BIG EAST MATCH WOULD BE THE ENVY OF ALL ENVIES.

lol, what a clown. This would be the biggest matchup in Creighton history. A chance to beat WSU, who has owned you in press clippings and stature after you abandoned conferences, owns you in program strength and it would give Creighton a shot at their FIRST Sweet 16 in program history.

        Deuces Valley.
        ... No really, deuces.

I agree. If he does a buy game then it establishes the precident that we are at that level. I love this and am glad he is sticking to this unlike Turgeon who did allow to get bought out. We only do home/home with P5 teams and thats it.

In fairness to Turgeon, katz, WSU has a stronger program now than it did when he was here, thus less reason to engage in social climbing. Still, Marshall made it that way without getting bought, so you have a point.

It's insane how cocky their fan base is. They're 10-0 after playing one ranked team and winning a close game against UMKC.

Surprised you make this statement. Most posters here generally research these things. They have some good wins.
Looked at their message board and found this 1 recent Shocker reference. Found older ones that were complimentary of the Shocks and Gregg.

It makes absolutely no sense that they won't play us yet in men's basketball. It has nothing to do with fans. I have a feeling that McDermott is the issue and he can't get past history and possibly even insecurities and inferiority to Gregg.

Even though most feel it's a flip of the switch to schedule someone, it's not.
Just checked McDermotts record vs Marshall. Don't think he is the issue. The athletic departments are very friendly and I think it's just a matter of time.
Not flaming, but the move to the BE was a huge step up in competition and playing the Shocks has not been a priority.

Selection Sunday Wichita State/Creighton RPI since the BE move:
                        2016: 47/100
                        2015: 17/151
                        2014: 4/10

So I really don't see what WSU has to gain by playing Creighton. In almost every year since their big upgrade in competition, they would have been a drag on the RPI and would have helped Creighton out more than WSU.(2014 was a good year for them, but it was an even better year for WSU RPI wise). Maybe their priorities aren't right.

#4 playing #10 isn't an "RPI drag" on #4. That's not how it works. WSU having a higher relative RPI takes nothing away from just how much of a schedule upgrade playing #10 would have been.

Even playing #151 isn't a drag if it replaces someone else who is worse. I'd be happy with a home-and-home series with anyone who considers 151 a down year.

Considering Creighton's track record over the past 5/10 years, and WSU's non-con schedules over that same timeframe, it makes absolutely no sense to claim that WSU would have "nothing to gain".

                          • I'd love to have them on our schedule again H/H or KC but not just
at their place or a one and two there

It makes as much sense as the Creighton guy saying that they don't have anything to gain either. I'm fully aware of how RPI works. You missed the hint of sarcasm that was in that post.

I agree. Nothing to gain by playing a lesser non-P5 school like that. I'd rather continue playing P5 schools in home and homes like we are now, that have been to Sweet 16s and Final Fours and have MUCH more upside than these one year flash-in-the-pans.

When was the last time that school was in the NCAAs anyway?
