I give Carlson credit for a great second half tonight. I'm not going to give Carlson credit for UNI's two victories where we scored 50 and 52 points.

Unit plays great D and that helps.

Let's be clear, here are the two positions that have been made concerning the loss to UNI in the MVC tournament:

Position 1: We lost because we couldn't defend Carlson. Carlson scored 9 points on 7 shots.

Position 2: We lost because we couldn't score the ball ourselves (full credit to UNI defense). We scored 47 points in regulation and shot 8.3% from 3 point range for the game.

It is certainly true that a person who holds one of these two positions doesn't know anything about basketball. I'll let others come to their own conclusions about which camp that is true of.

You forgot that besides Carlson, UNI spread the entire floor with all 5 players taking Carlson and Shaq away from the basket, and UNI's PG (quick as snot but I forget his name-a left hander) hurt Fred one on one by driving to the rim.

Conner guarded Washpun pretty well that game when he got the chance. Blocked his shot at least once IIRC.

We had a bunch of open threes that game and couldn't put them in. UNI shortened the game, played good D, and hit shots. They're a good team. One that doesn't get enough respect nationally.

We also held them to 47 in regulation. Our failure to deal with their zone in both losses was what did us in.

The UNI game at the Arch was example 1A of how bad last year"s ball movement could be.

I believe that sets up back to back games in 6 days against nationally ranked Xavier for the Panthers.

Another thing you can't complain about is how they schedule. Yes they get some help and a fortunate turn here and there, but they'll play Xavier X2, Oklahoma, UNC, Iowa & San Diego State in 6 of their 11 non-con games. Pretty stout.


My bad, that's South Dakota State, not San Diego State. They get Wyoming in the MW MVC Challenge.

Any time a guy scores 9 points for the game, he was not the reason you lost. If a guy scoring 9 points was the unstoppable difference in the game, you didn't score enough points...
