I think that says a lot about the rapport that Marshall builds with his players. He's only been here a few months.

    • Modern culture has so pussified what masculinity means that we have quivering lips over a high energy guy going high energy. Yep, if you've lived your life in the bubble of cubicle land getting participation ribbons to go with your safety blanket, then Marshall's behavior would be foreign to you; however, spirited and animated conversation is a thing in many other professions. Not an everyday thing, but a thing.

The other coaches and players trying to restrain Marshall is primarily what caused this spectacle. He wasn't going physical - we know that, they knew that - so they should have just left the damn man alone to make his peace.

See the tirade for yourself: For context, the Shockers were trailing 60-56 in the third quarter at this point. Things haven’t exactly gone as planned for Marshall and his Shockers on their pre-season tour of Canada. After an easy opening win over the University of Quebec at Montreal, 107-58 on Thursday, the Shockers were embarrassed on Sunday, taking a 25-point ... "
And this is what neutral observers are seeing.

Nothing fireable, but also not a walk in the park either like 75% of this forum is portraying. Oh ya, the refs sucked so it was completely justified.

This could really be it's own thread. I can only guess we have that clown at the helm until we decide the football issue and can then hire a professional accordingly.

He did the correct PR move. In reality, its not really a punishment, but to the world Big Bad Marshall didn't get away with murder.

I wish I could find video of the Altman meltdown to compare this to. I couldn't even find a story about the game (assuming I'm remembering it correctly).
2nd round NIT home game against Miami. It was memorable and embarrassingly deplorable. Altman went off like a nutcase. I don't think anybody really picked up on it because Creighton was playing another meaningless NIT game. It was around for a while and eventually went away. Even though Altman went completely nutso, he still wasn't fighting through assistants trying to get to a ref in an exhibition game. Good comparison though. The Creighton fans probably got ahold of all the video, poured alcohol on it, and lit it on fire.

I agree and think both Boatright and Marshall articulated their responses as well as anyone could expect.

                    I have an honest question:

When did YOU start giving two cents what anybody else thinks of us?

A-freakin-men. Coach is no dummy. He knew this was coming with consequences, but yet he did it because he has stones and he wanted to light a fire in these guys. He also owned up to it in the end and accepted the consequences.

Yeah, I actually wasn't referencing last night's news in my take of Boatright. I actually don't have any problem with him sitting Marshall tonight.

Well said. The whole Social Justice Warrior Snowflake ethos has embedded itself into EVERYTHING.

I'm not gonna sit here and defend somebody going nutty in an exhibition basketball game. It was a heated moment. But it also went beyond any normal "bitching a the referees" behavior. It's now a national story. How often do you see exhibition highlights from a college basketball team in Canada on Sports Center? Do you think that's a good thing for the program? Obviously, it isn't sitting well with some people. Lynn made an apology. WSU suspended Marshall for an exhibition game. Geez, I thought this was all a nothing burger?
