If he isn't a leader on this team, Shaq has all the opportunity to be one. He's a veteran on this roster in terms of being in the system and knowing expectations, and should be setting the tone rather than following it.
Could be due for a good season.

Assuming no improvement in foul rate, he would average 4.36 fouls in 24 minutes. So he needs to improve that slightly...nd the fouls can't be called in bunches.
Last year, Shaq had 5 games of 20+ minutes (25, 24, 22, 20, and 20). Even when Grady was out, he only had 1 game 20+ and in another, played only 19 while having only 1 foul for the game. He had 8 games last year where he played less than 20 minutes, scored in double digits, and was not in foul trouble, averaging 11.3 ppg, only 2.0 fpg, but only 17.5 mpg. It wasn't like minutes were not available as Grady did not play in one of those games, played 18 in another, but averaged only 10.7 mpg in the other 6. Stamina could be an issue.

"Daishon Smith and others emerge for Wichita State as Shockers continue Canadian tour" - SB*Nation
By Jeremy.Bowen on Aug 8, 2016, 11:37am
"The new-look Wichita State Shockers are now halfway through their Canadian exhibition tour. Thus far, they have defeated the University of Quebec-Montreal 107-58 on Thursday and fell, 100-75, to Carleton University. There’s no shame falling to Carleton, of course; they’re winners of 12 of the last 14 Canadian College National Championships.
While these games don’t count for anything, they are significant in their own way. These are, after all, the first two games the Shockers have played without Fred VanVleet and Ron Baker since 2011...."

If by 2011, they mean March of 2013, then yes.
Or did they just look at the year WSU started winning a ton and go from there?
I still think the most likely 2 WSU squads to make the Final Four since Marshall started were 2012 and 2014.

"Podcast: Talking about Candid Coaches and Gregg Marshall's outburst in Canada" - CBS Sports
Is Duke's Grayson Allen really the college player college coaches would prefer to have over all others?
Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander discuss Coach Gregg Marshall and "What got into Gregg Marshall -- you've seen the video, right? -- during Wichita State's trip to Canada?"
Starts at the 29 minute mark.
I am in agreement with their positions.

BR's Top JUCO transfers for 2016-17
Daishon Smith is #9
The junior college ranks don't produce nearly as many instant-impact players for basketball as they do for college football, but schools mine a few gems from that scene each year...
Darral Willis is #7

"Landry Shamet raising eyebrows early for Wichita State" - SB*Nation
By Chris McKee on Aug 23, 2016, 10:01am
Wichita State’s highest-rated recruit in the Gregg Marshall era is poised to make an impact this season.
"...When you watch a college basketball game in person, certain players’ talent and athleticism becomes much more obvious up close. Shamet is one of those guys. In person, Shamet’s ball-handling was far superior to any of his Wichita teammates or their opponents, and his movement off the ball made it easy to forget he’s played only a few collegiate games. His long arms and slim frame allow him to play much bigger than his listed height of 6’4, which can should create match-up problems on the defensive end for his Missouri Valley opponents...."

Wichita State - "How good can the Shockers be without star guards Fred VanVleet and Ron Banker? Wichita State will need to navigate the Missouri Valley without a top-flight, veteran backcourt, but it seems a good bet that coach Gregg Marshall can craft a formidable squad without those two. He’ll lean on league freshman of the year Markis McDuffie, forwards Shaq Morris and Zach Brown and former Kansas transfer Conner Frankamp"
