But, the article I posted from the Sunflower shows that attendance was indeed poor, barely 10% of the capacity of Cessna, for at least two games, KU and Arizona State, that should have had MUCH higher attendance. Other teams surely brought even less attendance. And thanks for the summarization on the article. Appreciated. It actually backs up a lot of he same exact concerns that I've stated.
As I stated in the previous post nether one of those games were played at WSU. That article is just full of factual errors. I can guarantee you if they were, there would have been 30,000 or very close to it for those games. The only attendance figure I read in the article that I am sure is correct is that we averaged 23,000 per game during the season we went 8-3. Unfortunately they even got the year wrong, we went 8-3 and averaged 23,000 per game in 1982 not 1983.

Personally, I was surprised that either KU or ASU would even come to WSU as I sure didn't remember them darkening our door. As I said, I look forward to getting into the microfiche and getting exact numbers for the years in question.

Partially interesting....but enrollment actually dropped last year. Applications are one thing..butts in the seats are another. And with the university not filling recruiting coordinator spots, things may not improve on that front very soon.

Yes it was. It was also televised on espn. I have a video copy of the game that I had watched a few times back when I had a working VCR. I have kept the video around just because it is the last football game the Shockers played.

Enrollment is actually lower than it was in 2012...before he Final Four Run.
            Fall 2015---14,594
            Fall 2012---14,898

Maybe the NIT win from 2011 made for the increased enrollment---uh, guys, that's sarcasm.

Maybe, we should drop our athletics program so that we can pay for the drop in funds that the state is paying WSU. That would free up extra money so that the students tuition wouldn't go up. That is sarcasm too.

Indeed...and nobody wants that. Thankfully, a WSU education is one of the best academic values around...for now.

With Bardo's push to also increase total number of credit hours and get WSU to become a more traditional university, I'm curious as to whether you can provide total hours as well (or hours per student).
2007= roughly 147,000 credit hours and 2014 set a record at roughly 165,000 credit hours

Sorry, those aren't as regularly available. I wondered the same thing...just can't get that. I have no idea if the actual hours are up or down. With the fall in enrollment, however, I don't see how they could be too far up.

Nearly 161,000 credit hours for fall 2015. About 2% down from the record high of 165,000 in 2014

                        • Can't help but reflect on the irony that it was our LACK of football that played a major role in getting us in to the AAC.

                          • Financial suicide. It would erode the other sports as we tried to keep it afloat.

                              tgcshock,

Right, really weird that the lack thereof is what fit perfectly into what the AAC needed. Who would have thought?

Had we spent millions and eventually fielded a team that would not be competitive for 5-10 years, our future would not nearly be as great as it is today and all future days.

Who knows, one day, we may again, sometime in the future, field a football team that will be competitive, but that's for another day in the future.
