Board of Regents will IMO be his biggest obstacle. Fortunately Age Discrimination Laws prevent his forced ouster (witness Phog Allen at KU) but the BoR can always cite such relevant concerns as diminished capacity to maintain active leadership.Originally posted by calfan View Post

Most smaller schools don't get much attendance at football games unless they're a powerhouse, which is one of the concerns I hear quite a bit. But I think the Wichita faithful would strongly support even a struggling young Shocker football team. Especially if everyone is walking into a renovated Cessna Stadium. I'm all for it.Comment

A little off the topic, but what WSU does need to start is soccer. Wichita State needs more revenue generating sports and I think soccer could help with that. It's not a question of whether or not WSU should have soccer, but when is the soonest it can be started.Comment

Unlikely that Soccer would be a revenue generating sport. Yes there would be revenues but I would be shocked if those would cover expenses like every other one of our sports other than Men's Basketball would most likely be a money loser. There has been quite a bit discussion on this in the last month since the move to the American heated up. You can find soccer attendance numbers for Soccer on the discussion of other sports to the AAC threads on the Men's and Women's Sports forums.Originally posted by calfan View Post

13 games x 3500 x $10/seat (?) = $455,000
With 9.9 scholarships at $10,000(?) per year, that's $99,000. You add in a $80,000 coach's salary, plus maybe a couple $40k assistants/managers, you are looking at $160,000ish for staff. That leaves quite a bit of room for field leasing (Friends?), equipment and travel expenses.
Of course you have to look at the low end too ... assume attendance is only $2000. At that point you are near break even with only salary and scholarships, but still have other operational costs eating into ya.
