  • Isn't part of the scholarship deal with the men's basketball players is that Wichita State provides them with room and board in addition to tuition and books? I assume they will be taken care of. Anyone who wants to help can just make a cash contribution to the Wichita State basketball program or athletic department in general. I have a feeling they will be taken care of.

    • This is why the NCAA sucks. They'll allow schools like UNC to get away with BS classes that their athletes don't ever attend for decades, but you can guarantee they'd be all over fans helping out some kids actually in need like stink on ****.

      • I believe that a dorm could be built for athletes but 50% of all rooms have to be opened up to the general students and yes it is like a lottery from what I have heard.

You could just "sell" them and then pay the boys a "fee" to haul away your trash.

The NCAA didn't allow cream cheese with bagels until a couple years ago... I highly doubt there is much the university can do here.

I was thinking of something similar. Used couch $1.00. Used chair $1.00. Used whatever $1.00.

Really. I didn't realize Room and Board weren't part of their scholarship package.

They allow them to provide housing on campus. I do not believe they get money for living off campus.

                  • All scholarships include Tuition, Books, Room and Board. Now they are getting a monthly stipend to do laundry and other expenses that all kids have. I'm not sure how much the stipend is.

Room and board is covered, and off campus I believe they get a stipend, but again there are limits to how much though. I doubt the NCAA allows them to give more because of a loss of property(Reasons why renters insurance is a must).

Renters insurance is dirt cheap, I would guess most college kids don't have it though

All scholarship athletes receive stipends for incidental monthly living expenses. It doesn't matter if they live on or off campus.

I think I paid $80 a year for many multiples of the value of my contents when I was renting. Multiline discount with car.

When Shocker Son moved out of our house, I told him to call our insurance guy and get renter's insurance. He sighed and said, "How much is THAT going to cost?" I told him "a lot less than replacing all of your stuff." Adulting is hard.

                              • I have to say that when I was in college (living in a regular dorm, not off campus or with a bunch of jocks) the idea of renter's insurance never even occurred to me. So I'm not surprised to hear that even nowadays, with insurance a bigger and more heavily advertised deal than in my ancient collegiate times, a kid wouldn't know about it.

I'll bet Markis knows about it now, though.
