It's going to be a real long season for some of you bozos who have yet to come to terms with the fact that replacing the top point guard in program history won't be seamless. I predict it's going to go a lot like every other point guard replacement we've ever had, pre-Fred.

While I agree, there's been cases across all sports where teams have gone on to achieve great things after losing a star.

Look at Tennessee in football, they won the national championship the year after Peyton Manning left for the NFL.

I'm not saying WSU will win the tourney next season, nor am I saying they will be better than they were with Fred and Ron. Though they will likey not be better (right away at least), don't be supposed if they are as good as they have been recently come seasons end.

I don't agree that we will be better next year because of Fred and Ron. I won't predict how many games we will win, but within the injuries we had this year, and the slow start, perhaps we could have had a better year, but it was not because of Fred and Ron.

You do know that CF played point at WSU behind Simon and Taylor?

CF played point at KU behind a one-year guy. I think it was Nadiir Tharpe, who was utterly worthless as a PG and transferred out after his only year.

I do know that CF played PG at KU. I know that CF had one good game at KU against Stanford in the NCAA's.

Being behind Simon and Taylor on the PG depth chart does not give me confidence that CF is WSU's next PG.

He was the third one in games that were in doubt. I have no idea how people watch games and miss this stuff.

Ron may have been the best defensive guard in the entire country this year. I think it took a bit of a toll on this legs, and his shooting followed. But there is also a reason we were far and away the best defensive team in the country.

I totally agree. Which gives me hope that next year's team will be better than the one this year. Not because of player talent, but better chemistry.

We don't know yet exactly what the 2016-17 roster will be, but we do know that WSU will be younger and less experienced next year, and won't have the extraordinary proven leadership that this team did. The Shocks also won't be as good defensively, which is no great revelation -- when you're #1 (and by over TWO points per 100 possessions according to KenPom), every other spot is down.

But they'll have lots of talent, great coaching, and probably more opportunity for more guys to shine on offense. They'll also have some excellent candidates as leaders, and they'll have a summer trip to give them extra practice time and some games to get acquainted with each other and the requirements of playing under the Marshall Plan. If they stay healthy and their roster stays more intact than this year's did, I expect that they'll finish better than 26-9, and that it won't take them three wins to reach the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament.

That doesn't mean they'll be better -- this year's team would have been a hell of a lot better than 26-9, too, if they had enjoyed the good health that the unbeatens did; they might even still be playing (yes, I know what that implies). But they'll be plenty good, and the stories next April will be about how the Shocker train somehow just kept on rolling even without Fred and Ron in the engine.

it will keep on rolling for sure. top-25 preseason? probably not. top-25 at all during the season? mmm.. battle for atlantis will tell the tale. the cupboard isn't bare.

Luckily, (real) baseball is just starting, the NBA playoffs are about to begin (Go Spurs Go!), and even back here on the home front we can still wonder about roster moves for the Shocks. As I said, we still don't know who the 2016-17 team will contain. Plus, you can research and plan your trip to Montreal, a very appealing and interesting city -- like going to France without having to stop speaking English or put up with the French (or ISIS, these days).
