Was watching the WSU/Arizona replay earlier this evening. After Shaq's dunk, where he got fouled, Markis comes in to congratulate. He is at least 2 or 3 inches taller than Shaq right now. Next is Kerry's 15/20 pounds of muscle.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

but i might be splitting hairs, because 2-1 in the ncaa tournament is pretty friggin good. ask michigan state about what happpened to them in the ncaa tournament, great seniors and all.. see how they answer.
I think I'm done with shockernet for awhile. I can't believe someone would compare Ron and Fred to Allen Iverson. You're not splitting hairs when you say that. You're doing much, much more than that: you're losing your mind.

        • There is sure a lot of criticism of concensus Top 10 Shockers. It makes me a little uncomfortable. Here is a true statement too. Why don't we criticize Dave Stallworth because he never could lead us to win the Big One and get us to the Final Four. That 63-64 team was probably WSU's all time best team. Dave just couldn't get it done and Big Games are how you evaluate great players.

........although we do not know the true height of either player

3 things in life are certain....death, taxes, and coaches assign whatever height they want to a player....:)

              • If I had to guess, I would say Shaq is more like 6'7" and Markis is closer to 6'9". Markis and Hamilton are about the same height.

And you also stated it was OK to start someone like RKelly at PF next year even though he has problems finishing. That was part of the problem this year. We did not have a volume scorer, we did not get much contribution from the PF position relative to scoring, which caused Ron and Fred to have to pick up the bulk of the scoring. I agree that we need hustle players, but if they aren't good scorers, they need to come off the bench to make their contributions, rather than starting (and getting the bulk of the minutes). Unless and until we can prove we have a 'go to' guy, I would prefer that we value scoring over hustle at least a little, as until someone steps forward next year, none of us will know whether we have a scorer like Cle in the bunch (I think we missed Cle and Tekele much more this last season than we would care to admit).

Get a volume scorer first, once we do that, if coach wants to reward someone for their toughness and hustle, then let's definitely do it. To say otherwise ignores what happened to the team this season. Note this has nothing to do with playing defense, as I totally support Marshall's demand that starters be able to play defense first. I just think scoring should be a close second after defense, with hustle third.

So you may think another shocker's comment was preposterous, but I can assure you that he's not the only one making those types of comments here IMO.

It would sure be nice if Markis could grow another two inches and gain some bulk. Then we would have the true center (or PF) we have been looking for.

If McDuffie grows two inches and adds 15-20 pounds, he won't be here as a junior.

Maybe so, but if he becomes a dominating player down low, what a two years that might be! If he does jump to the NBA, I'll be rooting for him. That is the ultimate goal for most of these kids and they work very hard to try to get there.

Markis playing center would be the biggest waste of his talent imaginable. What makes him special is his face up game and perimeter skills for a guy his height. Putting him at center would completely waste those attributes. Stretch 4, maybe. Center, no.

Just happened to read the above article, totally unrelated to sports, but this Lesson #5 seemed apropos to the 2015-16 Shocker team (or Evan in the KU game last year).

Don’t sell your people short, for any one of them may be the hero who rises to the occasion when duty calls. On the other hand, it’s easy to turn to your proven performers when the chips are down, but don’t ignore the rest of the team. Today’s rookie could and should be tomorrow’s superstar.
