  • Quote from coach Muller after the game.

“This was their day and we did not play well,” said ISU coach Dan Muller. “I’m disappointed in some things of execution and discipline and how we handled the adversity we faced. It’s past us. We have good film and things to learn from.”
The only way we'll see em again is in the tourney finals.

How about this. MM gets pushed hard from a redbird player but keeps his cool as Cotton did receiving the high karate kick. Don't these birds know our Freshmen might be tasked with some undercover spying detail? I loved how Kelly and Grady intervened to prolly mention "how the cow ate the cabbage." Then on the next play, Grady assumes his spot for a free throw rebound down low where still another meeting of the birds was being conducted. Grady gives them the cold stare as if to say "If you want privacy, you will have to move on birds because I am NOT moving!!!!!!! Loved it!!!!!!!

Their was a 5:30 stretch late in the first half where the Shocks went on a 20-2 run and their was a 3:30 stretch midway through the 2nd half where the Shocks went on a 11-0 run. So the Shocks won those 9 minutes by a score of 31-2. Illinois State won the other 31 minutes 56-43.

I have to give Illinois State some credit. They are probably the only team in the Valley that can match up to the Shocks physically and athletically.

If the Shocks had shot the ball evenly moderately good fromt the perimeter and from the FT line this would have beend a 30+ point win.

Thanks, kudos and congratulations to Fred, Ron, Evan, Anton and Bush. But let's just make this the beginning of a really, really special ending.
Unfortunately for the Birds, it is helpful to play smart occasionally.

              • I thought we were in trouble when I noticed their entire starting lineup was available and all out on work release.

It was actually more like a 25 point beatdown if we had given a **** with 7 or 8 minutes left to play.

At that point, it was all about when Fred, Ron and Evan were going to get their last curtain call.

We could end up an 8/9 potentially facing a 1 who ranks below us in Kenpom. That'd be Xavier.

The selection committee is so blindly hung up on the top 50 and top 100 records that they ignore other relevant information, which in turn creates unfair match ups (us versus UK in 2014, this above hypothetical, etc.).

Winning the Lew will help, and maybe a better spot. Xavier would be a handful for any team, but so will we. We are starting to peak with still more room for improvement. Our D. will really help. As long as we keep making shots as today, or even better, I like our chances.

                        • Special day, to say the least. To be honest, can't believe I made without a complete breakdown. Score 1 for the Doc.

ISU's post intro team dance was unreal. I don't know who was in the middle, but it was EMBARRASSING. Gesturing to the crowd, the throat slash, the eff bombs. I get that you're fired up and you think you can win, but that was way out of bounds.

Hawkins and McIntosh COULD be great. High talent athletes and very skilled. Also not very smart. And they don't try all the time. Watch the replays and see them jog so many times.

Part of it is because they don't have the Shock's depth, and part is because they don't have the heart or brain to pick up their teammates. Now watch WSU press, hard, and bust ass to get back and not allow a weakside open 3. That's what makes them average and our guys great.

I hope "we" all had a good laugh about Paris Lee being the best player in the league. lol I wish Fred and Ron would both win it. Pretty sure it's going to be Fred. He's been dominate on every end of the court.

We had them down 25 before we started goofing around. 25. We didn't have ESU down 25.

The 2 runs were unreal. Fred's dagger will never be forgotten. His dimes to Kelly and Shaq sealed the deal. Then he thanked the crowd. Words can't describe.

Baker was Baker. Shut down whomever he wanted. Kept us right there when the Birds were killing it from 3.

Evan had a great game. Someone said (maybe on the pregame show?) that while Fred and Ron were the best, many of us relate to Evan. He was his usual self. Unselfish, never fear, make my teammates better self.

McDuffie was very good...Conner was very good (great on D). Kelly was good, Brown was a tad off, but VERY active. Shaq was great at times but not often enough, but never fear, Grady was NAILS. Man was that nice to see him go out on such a wonderful note. What a year that young man has lived through.

A wonderful day for a wonderful group of young men.

                          THANK YOU.

                          • Whew. Got home about 30 min ago. Stayed for the whole senior celebration and net cutting. Went to Ziggy's pizza afterward with family and fellow Shocker fans. Went to more family's house to celebrate. What a fun freaking day.

Fred was having a damn good time. Never seen him celebrate and have fun that much in one game ever. Felt a little bad for Ron having to ride the bench with 2 fouls in the first half, but he was out there ballin' too. Evan Wessel, 3 steals?! Anton was having a lot of fun out there too. So great to see.

Could you ask for a better day? Can't wait for St. Louis.
