Gee, you sound like you have some actual marketing skills and imagination, ST -- too bad you don't work for the athletic department.

As I said before, step one is for somebody who does work there to figure out what the primary goal is during a game, and that the answer isn't to maximize commercial-time revenue.

I agree that there is a problem (although I think that some overstate it here), but it's ridiculous for anyone to call the Athletic Department desperate for money. Of course, they need money. If they didn't need money, they wouldn't do it. Maybe someone on here should start a fund that those of you who don't know what is necessary to run a big time department with less money than the P5 schools could contribute to.

Have a couple of sponsors who pay less to allow that they may not get their spot in a particular game here and there, but they would get the announcement during those times as sponsoring a "cheer on the Shockers".
This. The wife and I attended a game at IU last year - they still had their share of "reindeer games" but got 'em done in the first few seconds of a timeout and then let the band, cheer or largest student section in the country take over. I can think of a couple of instances that the noise certainly was back at 100% from before the timeout that had Turg and his Terps still flustered.

The other missing component - each of the programs that we've mentioned here has one thing that allows them a lot more opportunity for trial and error -- D-One football. Game Day Operations staff, resources and sometimes abilities are just simply greater at those schools. Nothing we can't overcome, but certainly a different animal to be sure.

Well, we already had one poster offer to chip in; so would I. And the way they handle sponsored promotions does suggest desperation. No doubt they need money, but when you sacrifice the quality of the game experience (and work against your team's interests in the process) to squeeze in stuff that would be better suited to minor league baseball, it looks at the very least mercenary, if not desperate.

Maintain focus. It took several years of complaining about the poor halftime entertainment and how important a good haltime performance was to the event experience. Well, we can no longer complain about poor halftime entertainment (except for, perhaps, dropped cheerleaders) because we don't have any at all. If we persevere, maybe in two-three years we'll get our wish (demand) and there will be no timeout "entertainment." Just keep on hanging in there. Maintain your focus. We can be successful.

So you're the reason we can't see monkeys riding dogs again? That show was inspiring!

Only if you had the "dream"!

For some the glass is half full and for others half empty. My glass is out of ice.

I'd go for cheerleader tossing, but definitely use mats -- don't need any drops on that hard floor.
