lol. Has anyone mentioned that we played a bad game last night? And an even worse second half? Things sure look better after 24 hrs.

Of course, given the way WSU was playing offense at that point, even if they had got the ball back as they should have, down 49-48, they'd probably have just clanked another three. But it was still a costly, inexplicable call subsequently made even more damaging by Shaq's foolish foul.

But that obviously wasn't what happened, so what were they talking about -- and how the hell did they miss that call?

Three observations from Saturday's debacle.
1) The Shockers aren't invincible. As good as we believe they are (and they are a good team), they can be beat. As Sully pointed out in his game day update, t's been a while since the Shox have been seriously challenged and they finally got challenged Saturday night. This should provide 3G with plenty of teaching points going forward.
2) We still struggle against zone defenses. We'll see more of that in the tournament so 3G needs to get that fixed soon. Our perimeter offense abandoned us Saturday night. Not sure it was anything Ill State did. As others have pointed out, too much standing around and dribbling without purpose. Which leads me to:
3) Conner is a shooter. Shooters shoot a lot to get into rhythm. Conner must shoot more. They've got to find ways to get Conner into the offense more. And Conner has to stop deferring to Ron and Fred. This team should not be relying on Evan Wessel to hit threes. We have a sharpshooter on the team. Start feeding him the ball in more obvious fashion.

I hope we see lots and lots of zone being played against us - we need the practice. Would rather see
Ron on a wing instead of the elbow. Like to see MM on the elbow with Ron and CF on the wings
waiting for Fred or MM to kick it to them.

We've beat that same zone before. But you have to at least make one or two outside shots so the top of the zone comes out enough to get the ball to the guy at the free throw line, who can drive and get the back of the zone to commit. That's the weakness in the that defense.
Otherwise it's pointless dribbling, chuck up a shot and send four to the glass hoping someone misses a box out
If I'm not mistaken I think Drake tried it some when we played it here

Relax, guys. It is all part of the Marshall Plan. He wants to exhibit a total inability to score against a zone defense and against most of the remaining teams we will still have sufficient scoring to win handily. Then when we play the good teams, they will commit to the zone and 3G will take the leash off and destroy their zone defenses. They will tehn shift back to their man defense (which they haven't been practicing) and will fall into our trap."I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:
