Opposing fan bases LOVE Barry Hinson in the Valley because it increases the odds of them finishing higher in the final standings with him on a sideline. He's blown so many people in the MVC office a .500 season guarantees him no worse than a third-place finish in Coach of the Year voting.

Think of it this way: MSU's billionaire-funded program has sucked arse since Hinson left. Go to whatever board MSU has and ask them if they would have Barry Hinson back. I'm going to guess that, despite the fact that they have absolutely sucked possum balls since he left, there are very few there who would want him back. NOT kidding.

I'm feeling much better about this game for two reasons, Fred and Anton. I think both are back to 100% and that changes the whole dynamic of this team. Anton just plai looked solid Wednesday night and he was playing arguably the post player in the Valley. I just don't think SIU has the post play to make the difference. Beanie may get his points (I'm still skeptical given the way Brown and McDuffie's defense has picked up, no to mention that of Baker) but don't believe anybody else will be able to score against our defense.

May not be a blowout but this is a solid win for the good guys in black.

But, knocking off New Orleans twice in one season quieted the critics. :)

I think many on this board genuinely like Hinson, including myself. And remember, that is in spite of working for Self/KU.

I feel he get screwed out of at least 1 NCAA appearance.

Funny story ... I was all aboard the Barry train when he got hired. I liked it. And, I agree - he got screwed out of at least one NCAA bid while at Missouri State.

But, he's done nothing in four years at SIU other than run his big mouth, making us a national laughing stock (remember the SIU team bus getting stuck on the side of an interstate that had been closed in a snowstorm?), turning our roster over and over and insulting the fan base with his ramblings about his schedules.

If we didn't have Anthony Beane we would be Bradley. And, that's a pretty damning statement for a guy in his fourth year on the job.

His act is tired, and I would be saying the same thing if we were 16-0 heading into this game.

I think we like him because 1. He isn't our coach so we only get to hear what he says every now and then. It can't get annoying and we get the 'better' items that make it to the larger media market. 2. We feel his team was screwed by the big schools with the non-invites. And that plays to our collected MVC dislike of the P5's. And 3. He's short.

I'm not going to waste anymore posting space on Shockernet with Barry Hinson complaints. You guys really have little to worry about tomorrow unless you forget about Beane. I expect a double-digit Wichita State victory.

Our beloved Shocks are very good at slowing our foes 1 or 2 best players to a mild roar. With that said, road wins are still tough and I believe our Shocks are up to this and I still think we win by 7 but any win is finer than a frog-hair.

You've pretty much nailed it. Hinson's schedules are designed to make him look good and save his job.

I think that's a bit harsh. His record was awful last year (understandably), and he's playing with a LOT of new components. It would have been very difficult to justify scheduling up this year, without really knowing how good his team will be. He better schedule up a little next year though, or he's going to get the "Marty Simmons is a wuss" treatment. :)

Sadly, I have friends that are pretty familiar with Coach Hinson, Coach Self and their times together, especially at ku. Something changed with Barry when he went to lawrence.

Now, I enjoy listening to him, watching him coach and generally the little that I know about him I like. But he absorbed something at ku that didn't make him a better person imho (and others).

I think most everyone can figure that out.

I hated the great SIU teams of 8-16 years ago. Mostly because they were so damned tough, which is exactly what I wanted WSU to be. We were so soft.

I still say one of the best moments at a WSU game was a loss to SIU.

This conference is so much better with a strong SIU and I know (or at least have hope) that they will pull their own weight schedule-wise if they can "get back".

And I will always pull for the Dawgs OOC and in tourneys. I can't say that for some other Valley programs.

I also feel bad for GREAT fans like MSNSaluki. He's the best kind of fan and deserves better than what he's got of late.

It was noted on Saluki Nation today ESPN3 is going to carry the game. Not sure if that's true or not but it's a possible option.

him and mockevishus were going at it pretty good too.. a bit rough down there. i wonder if coach had a little one-on-one talk with grady before the game.. he seemed unusually "ready".

i expect a tough game from siu, especially if baker plays like he did in the last game.

The thing is, Kung, he won't do it. This has been his m.o. since at least his Misery State days. There are those who say he got screwed out of a couple of NCAA bids back then. The fact is he sctewed himself out of those with lame OOC scheds.
