  • We lost this game because of sloppy turnovers. We let them back in the game and didn't finish what we started.
    What a disappointing pre-conference season.

WSU actually out-rebounded SHU by 1 (both overall and on offense).

        So far from true.

        • 21 turnovers. If I remember correctly we had 6 at halftime.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

          • 3 TOs last week (two being charge calls).

Crazy what a difference a week can make.

            • The final thought on our offensive game plan...

A previous post mentioned in this thread how there are too many spectators on offense. That is a direct by-product of our current offensive scheme of pick and roll, pick and roll, pick and pop, etc. When a pick and roll occurs, the other 3 players on the floor are essentially just spacers...they are there to hug the three point line and shoot if their man helps and the ball gets kicked to them. They can't 'be cutting or moving during a ball screen because they could bring a third defender into the 2-man ball screen and that's a huge no-no. I think we have players that are capable offensively but with the current scheme if they aren't wide open they are afraid to do anything and just pass out to Fred for another pick and roll. Running set plays gets everyone involved, you are either screening, cutting, running off of a screen, or passing. It helps to get everyone comfortable. You're not just standing on the perimeter.

More motion, less pick and roll would help this team offensively IMO.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

              • This is by no means a meltdown post, but it might actually be a long year.. We have a army of guards that miss free throws and uncharacteristicly turn the ball over.
If they are going to turn it around they need to:

-Get the bigs more involved, no matter how risky it may seem.

                -Work on free throws

                -Take care of the ball

-Treat every possession like it's important

                -Drive to the basket more.

They still have the potential to be a great team this year and still have injuries, but focus and determination is mysteriously lacking.

                • Easily the biggest homer job I have ever seen. Seeing it in person made it about a thousand times worse.

With that said, the turnovers were some of the ugliest I've ever seen. How many times did Fred have to get destroyed in the lane for him to stop?

Very frustrating because the game was so winnable.

With that type of officiating, Seton Hall will go 16-2 in the BIG EAST.
                  Without it, maybe 7-9.
                  Deuces Valley.
                  ... No really, deuces.

                  • It's hard to win on the road in college basketball. We have been so good on the road these last few years we've become accustomed to winning games like these. You see it every year with marquee programs losing road games. The next three are at home, we'll get it figured out and start building towards March.

                    • For all those suffering the pain of losing can sometimes be remedied by 1 or 2 shots of Fireball Cinmnamon whoosky.
                      OK, maybe 4.

                      • morris has to find his way onto the court and stay on the court.

their long guards turned us over badly. something to work on in practices.

                        • I think Gregg made a great point in that too many times Fred and Ron are looking for a foul rather than making sure to finish the play. That's a big problem in a game such as today's. Especially at the end of the shot clock. One of the things that can be fixed.

I meant being better than they were. Maybe we were better in the first half. But not for the game.

Anytime some one complains about free throws on a Gregg Marshall coached team, it invalidates their entire point... We are over 70 for the year and higher than that today.

Apparently at least one more, because he never did stop. What we saw was a couple of pre-season All Americans who knew they were on national TV and insisted on getting theirs today.

                                Guess what - it's a team game.

The Shocks success after Fred's return has been because he was distributing the ball. There was less of that today for sure.
