2 are going on it right frikkin now.
Fanmas, I think he's talking about times when Fred doesn't have the ball, just trying to get to a position on the baseline. If you sat on the south end, you'd have seen it. Fred was twisting and turning attempting to break the armlock hold he was in. This was happening frequently, but I'd wager at least 4-5 times in the last quarter of play.

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

I must say, you got this part of officiating down.

You would think after years and years of it being that way, people would get used to it. As a fan, I can see both sides for sure. Without being on the floor, nobody knows why the officials call some things and not the other. It's just a matter of missed calls, not having the right angles, getting screened, etc. Nobody is perfect. Players miss shots and turn the ball over, officials miss calls, coaches make coaching mistakes, it really all works the same. You are correct that inconsistency is tough on players and coaches alike, but it happens.
At the start of the game I told the people behind me that this was going to be a rough game for WSU from the referees. However I was pleasantly surprised. I do have to wonder what happened to the stricter calling of fouls that was supposed to carry forward all season no matter what. This emphasis seemed to stop prior to the Orlando trip. It is not because players are no longer fouling as much.

No way. They were NOT kidding this year. For serious everybody, they are gonna keep it up all year.

I hope you don't fall off your high horse there. A fall from that height could kill a man.

              • So, just wondering, would people rather see a 66 foul, pushing 3 hour game like we had to begin the season? Or games where the stripes are letting them play, there's a flow to the game, and games get over in 2 hours. There's positives and negatives to both. Just asking genuinely, because I've heard people ***** either way. What is the preference here?

                • If they call it even, let 'em play. I think that benefits a tough team like WSU.

Letting them play. I hate ticky-tack fouls.

I'll obviously complain whenever Fred gets mugged going into the lane, but that's because I'm a Shocker fan. I'll complain a LOT more if Shaq breathes on a guy and gets whistled for his 4th foul in 9 minutes.

There again, that is something you would have a better chance of seeing live I think. Cause I certainly didn't see it watching the game on tv. I say what's done is done, I'll agree to disagree with most of you when it comes to this topic. As I said, moving on, I'm ready to get over this and move on to Utah! I've got the people on my ignore list that need to be there, everybody else I have no beef with

I didn't think folks were talking about Fred being fouled during the shot. I saw most of the contact during the initial move and drive. Did it bother me much? No, but it was there and has been a call in other games.

I understand the relevance of discussing officiating in regards to the UNLV game, but the last 10 replies related to "officiating" are a general discussion of officiating.

If you all want to keep talking about the officiating specifically related to the UNLV game go ahead. If it's generalize talk of the new officiating rules, I highly suggest the discussion is continued in its own thread.

I agree with you. These are college athletes, they should be allowed to play through some contact. Unfortunately, if the NCAA has their way, every single touch will be an automatic foul, and games will last 4 hours. And nobody wants that!

The officiating in this game was a non issue. Good calls, bad calls both ways. Obviously the less officials are a part of the game the better. I think the only reason most people on here even mentioned the officiating is because the UNLV fans, radio announcers, etc. wrongly tried to say it was blatantly called in favor or WSU.

There will be all sorts of complaints about being scheduled, hostile environment, the officiating. The local guys are pretty good about squashing bullshit. One of the hosts was raving about FVV on the Twitter all night.

The main show of the day starts at 1pm DooDah time.

After listening to them play clips of the UNLV radio play by play guys, I will never call Mike Kennedy a homer. My goodness those guys were just like the UNLV fan base, whiny, cry babies.

EDIT: I personally have never called MK a homer, but I know that he occasionally gets that criticism.
