I'm guessing he's referring to their NC in 1990 ... a solid 25 years ago because they haven't won a tournament game since 2008.
Pfft... WSU was playing in a Final Four while UNLV was still playing biddy ball in D2.

EDIT: Besides, if the criteria for NCAA MBB legitimacy is a National Championship - at some point in the past no matter how distant - then I guess WSU needs to start sucking up to the Bradley's and Loyola-Chicago's of the world. Anyone think either of those MVC schools is going to throw that in our face this year after they get curb-stomped by WSU? Probably not, as it sounds asinine in the context of modern history, and no, a title won back when crimped hair was a thing and Vanilla Ice was rollin' in his 5.0 is not modern history.

I'll say it again... when one school is spending $6.8M on their basketball program, and the other $3.8M, which one would a blindfolded person pick as the big boy out of the two?

Besides, the list of teams who have lost to us by "playing their worst" is a mile long. It is called a coach that stresses and recruits with a defense-first mentality.

Just be glad you didn't lose by 20 to us again.
Ha ha, Yeah what a coincidence, you had your worst game of the year when you played us! Know something really weird? Two years ago the first 35 teams we played each had their worst game of the year when they played us.

That was a pretty amazing series of coincidences, wasn't it?

        • Last night I saw the worst execution of a play called from a timeout. UNLV breaks the huddle with a solid minute before play starts. One of their guys jogs next to the ref and waits. Another player tells him he's not inbounding the ball. Both look at the coach and the first guy goes to the corner by the WSU bench and tells the guy there to run to the other side of the court. Play starts and a player in the middle of the lane looks over to the corner by the WSU bench and wonders why no one is there. There's some pointing and yelling going on by everyone now and the guy with the ball gives up and drives 1 on 5 into the lane and misses.

          • On the subject of ticky tack vs let me play: I prefer no foul is called if no advantage is gained. Mild holds, grabs, and moving screens off ball should be let go. On ball should be called anytime a player initiates contact. The "verticality" of the defender should be allowed more, such as was the case in the UNLV game, even if their feet aren't set.

The reason I think some thought WSU got a favorable whistle is because we got all the 50/50 calls in the first half.

Moving screen off the ball -- hope it's not called that way when we play Ballentine

I like the way you think. Personally, I'm of the mindset that if a defender is vertical or darn close to being vertical, I'm not bailing out the offensive player if he barrels in and creates contact. Too many teams I see the officials bail out the offense in this situation, and I thought Higgins and crew did a fantastic job of not doing that. I've never understood why some officials like to penalize the defense when the offensive player creates contact and causes the defender to come down on the offensive player.

Illegal screens need to be called. They create a huge advantage to the offense

It really does depend on the crew. I agree it should be universal all across the board. That way coaches and players would know exactly what to expect

Curious if this is an illegal screen?

First let me say, some illegal screens are very tough to call in full speed at the heat of the moment. Others are obvious. This one to me is 50/50. I would need to slow it down, but based on what I saw, I would say yes. It looks like Nurger is still moving and actually stepping toward the defender when contact is made.

Another problem is, for every 10 officials that say yes, 10 will say no. Another reason for inconsistency. Officials tend to see plays differently.

                          Hope that answers your question

                          • So, 50% of refs can see a play one way, 50% of refs can see a play another way, but if a fan disagrees they are an helpless, uninformed moron?

That's a picture perfect charge. The refs "flop" hand motion really ticks me off
