  • Those claiming WSU was receiving a favorable whistle this evening must not have watched FVV drive to the hoop or Ron Baker off ball all night. It's ok though, because apparently the refs were also not watching. Fred even commented on it in the postgame, which I don't think I've ever heard him do before.

I have seen WSU players T'd up for much less than some of the things Zimmerman was doing. And since when do assistant coaches get warnings for yelling at refs?

Zimmerman's reactions after scoring reminded me all over again how mad I was about those Ts Carl Hall got his senior year since he got T'd up for less than the direct yelling at an opponent Zimmerman did (not necessarily saying any of it should be a T, just that we've been called for far less).

Edit: @Cdizzle: beat me to it.

I to would like to pass along a compliment. As Rebel fans promised, I witnessed one of the finest pregame dunking exhibitions of all time. I especially appreciated all the wasted energy spent to put on the show and the lack of actual pregame prep just to entertain our fans. Reminded me of a high end rec league pregame warmup. My favorite was throw into row eight of section 101, sweet! Thanks again

My favorite part was Zimmerman screaming after scoring wide open dunks, then getting absolutely abused by FVV on the other end.

          • What about 15 for the Rebtards swinging the elbow in the first half after securing a loose ball? I can't remember who tried to poke the ball away from him, but he promptly moved the ball to his left hand and swung his right elbow for one of our boys. I apologize to the other fans in my section for the slew of f-bombs that I let out afterwards.

            • You have to hope that the shot-making comes around (and we continue to get more healthy), but otherwise that was starting to look an awful lot like Shocker basketball tonight. Guys sprinting around to help side assignments, multiple guys on the floor keeping balls alive, multiple jump balls and turnovers forced with great on-ball and help defense.

I think at this point, it might be safe to say Evan is good at guarding 6'9" guys and less good at guarding wings/guards. The guy is just a tank. The number of extra possessions he bought us tonight was incredible. I'll have to rewatch the game, but I'd conservatively put it at 8. That's crazy in a 56-50 game.

Glad to see I wasn't wrong on Zach Brown. I was getting worried. He is finding his role. His defense and energy tonight were fantastic. McDuffie has a chance to be really good given a little time with this coaching staff.

That is ALL they did in warmups. Both halves. It was cute.

                  • RPI has jumped to 81 btw. SOS is at 15, with games against #9 Utah and #32 Seton Hall looming. I know it's still early, but by the end of next week, our SOS should be hanging around in the Top 10.

                    • Oh ya, piggybacking off of Cdizzle's point, Evan Wessel is a stud. I don't think we definitively we this game without him tonight. There was 1 rebound in the first half where he literally jettisoned straight upward and grabbed an offensive board. The second half, I forget who made a pass that was high and slightly errant. There was only one person that was gonna jump outwards and grab that thing. Wessel. Every freaking time there was a loose ball that kid was there. I dunno how many extra possessions he earned us tonight. Didn't score a single point but his value was there. Big time. He isn't Tekele Cotton but he might be his shadow. Well played, Evan. I'd give you the game ball.

He was fantastic. One slight correction -- he did get two points.

And you were lucky it was that close . If we hit a decent % on our freethrows like normal(usually about 75% for the year, the game would have been a comfortable 10 to 15 point win. VanVleet playing at 85%, Frankamp first game in over a year, our starting 6'9 post still out with a spinal concussion and our 4 star 6'5 super guard who was averaging 9pts a game Landry Shamet out with a stress fracture and you say you had a bad game. Wow were still not even close to what we will be in another month. Good luck the rest of the year though, we need this for our RPI...
I agree with this totally. While I was impressed with UNLV's defense, length, and athleticism, we were very rusty and just getting our entire team for the first time. They were good but we were rusty. We are just scratching the surface on how good we can be.

By the way, Morris played as actively and with as much effort as I've ever seen him play. His defense was very good against Zimmerman while Nurger struggled some.
