I can't follow or understand any bit of that post. If you're trying for sarcasm, I think you have an epic fail.

I think Shaq, Grady, and Brown have not shown that they are significant players on a top-20 team. Taylor is doing more than I expected, because I never expected to see him in more than a minute here or there in games.

Would you care to tell me how the Shox are looking like a great team and Marshall is looking like a great recruiter right now?

I know there are injuries and we've been hit hard, but every team has injuries. Elite teams overcome injuries and maintain some level of respectability.

I'm willing to give Marshall some time to show that he's a $3 mill coach. I think he can show that he's worth it. So far, it's 2 AA guards that have made Marshall what he is. Losing just one of those AA guards has left the Shox as a rather mediocre team.

Questioning Marshall's value in unbelievable. All teams have ups and downs; some at the beginning of the season,some in the middle, some at the end. No doubt the problems will be corrected. If not, then there is next season.
People get too over-hyped about how good their teams are; most of the time, teams are not as good as we think nor as bad as we think - the same thing applies to the players.
You still have to play the game, every game - every year. You are not a good team just because of your past; you have to prove yourselves.
We are struggling with a couple of injuries and players roles not being yet established - it will come around. We are a good team, but maybe not as "scary good" as we
had built up in our minds.
Have to do the work.
Have to play angry - like the underdog we used to be. Get that mind set back. ;)

I have a concern that The freshmen and MM in particular are going to be exhausted by the middle of January. MM was visibly totally exhausted coming to the bench Friday! And the season is just beginning. A few days at Christmas will provide a brief respite, but after the next few games, I'm preparing for them to hit the "freshman wall"

It's looking like I've accidentally logged onto phog.net every time I check in here lately. It's the attitude that Marshall can do no wrong, and regardless of the current record, and some obvious problems in the lineup, that the current team is still among the elite of D1 ball. It's not. Maybe it will be again, but right now, it's not.

The media, the pollsters, and the national audience look at "what have you done for me lately". Lately is looking like a 4-game losing streak Monday when the Shox are likely to fall out of "Others Receiving Votes".

The Jr class this year would have been Morris, Holland, and Derail Green. Was Bowles in that class? You can't lose an entire recruiting class and maintain elite status. The So class is looking like another bust. I still think the So's will get it together, but it's disturbing to see their progress going in reverse.

Losing an entire recruiting class and having the next one look like they have no clue what they should be doing on the court is not a good sign.

Marshall is in his learning curve on recruiting and coaching at the level he's risen to. There will be setbacks. Marshall is as responsible for the setbacks as he is for the successes. He can't control injuries, but he has to know they're going to happen and backup personnel need to be in place.

If Marshall was making MVC wages, the current situation wouldn't be so bad. Marshall is making $3M+ a year. Name one other coach making that kind of $$ who wouldn't be on the hot seat if they started a year the way the Shox started this year.

I'm not suggesting that Marshall be on the hot seat. I'd expect someone like Lusk at MSU, who makes $300K, to have an entirely useless recruiting class (Morris, Holland, Green) and another that looked lost in their second year (Kelly, Brown, Nurger).

We better hope the Fr class becomes something absolutely special. When Turgeon had recruiting problems, he left. If Marshall is ever going to leave, an empty Sr class and an underperforming Jr class would be the most likely time to leave.

The best recruit of that class had a medical issue. The second best player is on the roster. Two guys just weren't good enough. They had potential, but couldn't make the leap. There are lots of things one could complain about, but that class isn't one of them. Keeping Holland or DG wouldn't help at this point.

By the way DJB was pushing Fred at the point guard spot. This was a significant loss.

Also, bringing up MT recruiting mistakes is asanine. There was a year at A&M where the total scoring production of all active MT recruits (across multiple schools) was less than 8 points a game combined.


At this point, you are the equivalent of a one issue voter and your one issue isn't going to ever get addressed by your mythological coach who can predict that four key players would be unavailable four games into the season.

There are some causes for concern, but overall if we had a few injuries last year we would've been in the same boat as we are now. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

We don't play college football, the season isn't over yet. If you want to freak out about next year, I won't agree with you but I can see the argument. If you want to freak out about this season, you need to take a nap for about a month and then everything will be perfectly fine when you come back, I guarantee it.

I wish I could say @Aargh: is the only person out there saying these things. My wife had my mother in law on speaker phone as we were driving back from the beach yesterday and the mother in law essentially said the exact same things as @Aargh: except she said them in a less informed manner. I reacted like most others on here thinking she was absolutely delusional, which she is.

Anyway, folks have to remember it's still November and there's plenty of time for Marshall to get the ship sailing back in the right direction.

I would add that we've seen two different teams shoot really well from 3pt range on us and basically steal wins in close games. One was a game that was so close the other team would not have won if they had hit ONE less 3 ball, reducing their lights out game to only 50% from 3. If they had shot a normal 3 pt percentage, we would have beaten them by 10. I'm talking about USC there.

In the Tulsa game we may still have lost since it was a 10 point game but you never know.

And in the Bama game, say what you want. They aren't a good team and we lost but I'd say it's safe to say we would have been in better hands with Grady on the floor for that desperation 3 pointer by Bush. But our starting center was literally in the hospital fearing for his life or physical future at that point.

In this tournament we are what? 5 points from being in the championship game? I am not at all surprised that a team this young is hanging in there like they are but then struggling to close out in tight games. What do you think experience does? I see all kinds of good stuff happening in our young guys. Shaq is the ONLY person I'm disappointed in.

I think some people who are frustrated we had no PG depth forgot the backup PG was ineligible till December 12th.

Distressing to read some of these posts. Thanks to injuries we hit a bump in the road. Without
the injuries we would not have had more than a single loss and probably not that. We will go
dancing in March this year and at least the next four. We will be young next year but by March
we will be very good. Great back court players with CF, LS and PA. MM could be very good at
the three or stretch four. RN will be a BIG stretch four and back up five when needed. I think
the Willis kid will be solid and there will be one or two others reach their potential.

This team was built to win a national championship and still is. A couple of the cornerstones got removed, but the building hasn't toppled. The core is being refurbished and refitted and when it's ready, the building will be completed, this year.
