More and more of recent I ask myself "why?"
In just a couple of hours we're probably going to watch our guys finish last in a tournament a month ago we expected to win. So be it.
I cannot WAIT to get these guys home....hell, for 2 plus years home games have been, with VERY few exceptions, de facto exhibitions with the outcome never in doubt. Entitled fans....where's our 25+ point win??
I'll cease being a fan of the program the day they stop putting forth effort...the day they are an embarrassment to the community....not when they lose 3 straight.
Some of you guys suck. Not that many, but some of you. And I'm not really calling out @Aargh: ..... not for his "missed" comment on the Jr. class. He's mostly right. By the way, D.J. Bowles and his heart say hi.
But some of the other guys didn't work out...we try to plug holes. For the most part it's worked...more than 85% of the time on the floor for 3 years. I'm sorry Ben Simmons isn't here this year. If any of you feel the need to give up your tickets now, I'm buying.
Honestly.....It's hard for me to understand ANY negativity right now. Guess what? If Baker gets hurt, Shaq transfers, Fred re-injures his leg, Anton doesn't recover and Ty Taylor gets homesick...we're not going to win more than 7 games probably. Sorry about that.
I'm not even going to try and address the Marshall pay thing....I mean, indefensible doesn't even begin to describe that stance today. The man's getting paid for what he's DONE here already, not like most P5 schools where you get paid and hopefully do someday.
I'm hugely PROUD of how this team has performed so far. Yes, somethings haven't gone well. Oh boy...see how the other half lives for a bit. They've battled their hearts out. They'll get NO complaints from this fan.
The cavalry IS in fact coming. I hope some of you are still here. And if they don't? I'll still be proud to support these kids giving it their all. Every flipping time.
This is why you ALWAYS enjoy the ride. I haven't made many predictions since the Final Four. I did predict they'd go 21-0 in the Valley the next season. I've been wanting to make predictions on this year for some time...mostly because I just don't believe there is a human being that can keep Fred VanVleet from getting what he wants.
But I haven't for 2 reasons...this board needs no more hype and I've been worried about injuries. All of a sudden, perfection seems to be about C work. What has happened to us as fans?
You want to complain about where we are? Fine...what the hell have YOU done? Did you sit on your hands at home games? Boo when we lost the 2nd half vs ESU (there were LOTS of grumblings)? Have you given all you can give to the program so we can travel like Duke? That's where we are right? Right there with Duke? Where are the Iron Shockers?
Are there 4000 fans in Orlando, like Dayton has? And you can point, as I am...right at ME. I'll wear it...you can blame ME, as I am doing. I'm going to blame myself before I blame ANYONE that I'm watching give it their all.
We should get healthy, and finally to full strength and then maybe people will relax and get all the wins they think they deserve. Whether that comes to fruition or not, I'll be enjoying the program.

oh, and i've kinda' enjoyed watching the shockers this weekend.. they are playing hard, trying to run sets, defend and everything. they look better coached than these teams they are losing to. but sometimes it's not about the x's and o's but the jimmy's and the joe's.
edit: iowa looks much better coached than usc and alabamaLast edited by another shocker; November 29, 2015, 10:44 AM.

Kentucky lost to Robert Morris in the 1st round of the NIT a year after winning the National Championship. The next year they get off to a rocky start but end up getting in the tourney with an 8 seed, beating WSU and make it back to the final 4.

VanVleet, Shamat, and now Grady would've made a big difference this weekend.
This sucks right now but this experience is going to pay off soon.
A lot of the things I see this weekend are fixable. Like we need to watch tape and practice. And practice some more.

I hated many aspects of the game today. I hated the loss. I hated that we couldn't make a shot in the first half. I hated that Iowa couldn't miss. The one thing I didn't hate was the effort. I felt like we finally played hard, at least in the second half. This Shaq needs to stick around, this Zach needs to stay and play. These freshmen need to keep playing their hearts out and learning and developing, but they are going to do great things for the future of this program, and I'm not talking about the distant future. I loved the enthusiasm of the second half, even after being down 30 in the first. That heart that came out in the second half may have been the result of an ass chewing at half time, or may have just been about guys finally wanting to be better than they've been so far, but I think it can only make us stronger going forward. Going into the Tulsa game we had no depth in the back court. The Tulsa game revealed that the So's weren't ready to be starters, our post play was weak, and we didn't defend the 3-point line. The only scoring threat on the court was Baker.
The outcome in Orlando was pretty predictable. I think the players did the best they could, and the team did the best it could with what they were able to put on the court. I'm not down on the team or the players. It's not possible to put these losses on them.
When the Shox were making their NCAA runs, it was amazing how often our opponents had bad shooting nights against us. There was a reason for that - it was the Shox D. Now, in Orlando, all of a sudden all our opponents had great 3-pt shooting games against us. There was a reason for that , too - it was the Shox D.
In the next couple of games, I'm going to be watching for improvements on guarding the 3-pt. shooters. If that doesn't get fixed, there will be some great shooting nights for our opponents in Valley play. Cotton wasn't defending 4 guys, but Wessel was defending one on the perimeter last year. Too many times, I'd see somebody at the 3-pt. line with no one within 10' of him and a clear passing lane to the open shooter. Lots of unguarded catch-and-shoot 3-pointers went in.The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
