HCGM said still 8-10 weeks on the pregame radio show. He's probably airing on the side of the caution with that timetable, but I wouldn't expect Landry to be game ready until at least early February.

Well, let's see. Fred came back earlier than expected. Conner played on the 9th instead of 12th. Anton was targeting after Christmas. I'd say that puts Landry at about mid January.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Per Marshall on the Teleconference today. Shamet wont be back until mid-February. Could be interesting timing to either rejoin or redshirt.

My understanding is that for him to receive a medical redshirt, they will have to provide adequate medical documentation stating that he can not return to play either before the end of the regular season, or to play in enough games to reach the 30% threshhold. I'm not sure which standard is used when attempting to return from injury.

I was thinking (that could be a problem) that if you played anytime during the second semester, you would not get a RS regardless of %.

My guess is that the injury must occur in the first half of the schedule and play in less than 30% of games anytime. However injury must be season ending, so that eliminates coming back for the last few games. The real question is when is he cleared medically to play in a game versus when is he physically in shape to play. Also, if he were declared not able to play in regular season but then declared okay for mvc or NCAA tourney, would such eligibility eradicate the potential for a medical redshirt?

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

Because of the bolded part ... i think he plays for us come February or March.

Gregg sounded a bit annoyed by the question, didn't he?

Gregg: I don't want to talk about that every week.

Moderator: We'll put that on hold.

                    • Unless something bizarre or an injury happens, LS will redshirt if that's the timetable. I say if because sooner has happened in the past

                      • I dunno if he will redshirt or not.

I don't think any of us know this, since 3G and Landry don't seem to have made a decision yet.

                          • I can't imagine someone would choose to go under the knife unless they absolutely planned to play again that season when the recovery time without surgery was only slightly longer.
Shocker fan for life after witnessing my first game in person, the 80-74 win over the #12 Creighton Bluejays at the Kansas Coliseum.

Well, not really; Baker came back at the END of February, although his case was also different in that he'd already used up his regular redshirt year and would have had to hope to be allowed a sixth year down the line. So rather than take a chance on something so speculative as getting a medical hardship / sixth year. he just went ahead and played; and aren't we glad he did?

Shamet, of course, still has his redshirt year available. But it may still depend not only on how he's doing physically, but also on how the season is going. If the Shocks think he can be their Baker 2016 secret weapon to get them back to the Final Four, and he's ready to go, maybe he plays; whereas if they feel comfortable with the rotation that has developed by that time and they don' t think he'd significantly improve their prospects (or at least not enough to make it worth spending a year of eligibility that could otherwise be used when his career is in full swing), maybe he doesn't. Who knows? Probably only Landry, his family, and the coaches, and even they themselves probably won't know for sure what they'll do until they see how his recovery continues to progress.

                              • I will say this about Landry. We will be a better team if he is in the lineup. He not only was a top-3 contributor in terms of points, he gave us something we still do not have from the bench: a guard that can come in and defend taller/more athletic players. No offense to Frankamp, because honestly I do not believe he is a bad defender, but when we have him and Fred in we get matchup problems. I also think that we only have a 3-guard lineup Marshall trusts right now, and I'd like to be able to give Fred and Ron more rest instead of having one of them in at every point in competitive games.

If he comes back and the team goes far in the tournament, I think he and everyone else will consider it "worth it" even if he plays less than a dozen games. We lose out on the potential scary-good 5th year but bird in the hand/bird in the bush. We don't have any idea what our program will be like in 4 years, but I think we know this year that we the chance for a special end to the season, regardless of how it has gone so far.
