  • Going to go off ESPN's bubble watch instead of Lunardi's bracket. Here is the link: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bubblewatch
Games tonight * team on bubble:
VCU*@ George Mason +11 VCU resume as far as RPI is similar to us. George Mason upset would be good tonight
    St Joe's*@ UMASS +7.5 St Joe's RPI is 28 and SOS 88
    Duquesne@ St. Bonny's* +7 St. Bonny's 18-7 with RPI 34
GW*@ Richmond -1 GW RPI 50, Richmond holding home court would be good here
Louisville@ Pitt* +1.5 Pitt is 8-6 in ACC with RPI 35
Marquette@ Creighton* -7 Creighton 17-10 8-6 in Big East with RPI of 83. Has to be a must win for Creighton
Northwestern@ Michigan* -7 Michigan RPI of 54 and SOS 70
Wisconsin*@ Iowa -7.5 Wisconsin has a great SOS of 6. Iowa holding court would be good here
    Arizona@ Colorado*+6 Colorado has a great RPI of 20 and SOS 30
Washington*@ Oregon St -4 Washington with RPI of 69 and 8-7 in Pac 12 is a must win. Oregon St has 6-8 Pac12 record and RPI of 32. Can't see them getting in with a losing Pac12 record

    • Really big game between Villanova and Xavier tonight. It will be interesting to see how far the loser falls in the polls since they are not in the Big 12. I'll treat it like a case study :)

      • Using the AP top 25, then Pomeroy for teams 26+
Current top 12 (games this week)
        1 – Villanova (@5, @103)
        2 – Kansas (won @19, 35)
        T3 – OU (77, @25)
        T3 – Virginia (lost @12, 7)
        5 – Xavier (1, @33)
        6 – Michigan State (won @68, 128)
        7 – North Carolina (@63, @3)
        8 – Iowa (37, @68)
        9 – Arizona (@69, @27)
        10 – Maryland (@20)
        11 – Louisville (@46, @12)
        12 – Miami (won vs 3, 11)

Assuming Villanova and Xavier win their games this weekend and neither loses twice this week:

If Villanova wins, they are easily still #1. Xavier stays ahead of the loser of UNC @ Virginia. Absolute worst case Xavier falls to 10, and only if the rest of the games around them all fall the wrong way for their interests. More likely, Xavier ends up around 7-8.

If Xavier wins, they move to 2 or 3 behind KU and maybe OU. I guess 4 is possible if the voters somehow decide to keep Villanova 3 and leave Xavier at 4. Villanova falls most likely to 4, but could fall to 5 at the very worst if UNC gets a big enough boost from a really good week of road wins.

There, my predictions for all to see. Let's revisit on Monday.

I saw the matchup between Xavier and Nova and got a kick out of the idea that if Xavier loses to #1 and drops out of the top 10 for it, it will be incredibly annoying. That won't happen, but I do wonder what will happen to the loser in either case because we all know nobody wants these two teams as high as they are. In my opinion, neither team should drop any lower than #6 no matter what the out come of the game is. #5 losing to #1 hardly deserves a drop of any kind other than the fact that #5 will have been at home. I'll give 1 spot for that. And should #1 lose to #5 on the road, there is no way they should drop lower than a spot or two...and definitely not further than the #5 ranking that the other team had. Ideally, you would just flip them at 3 and 2 IF another team makes a clear case for #1, and I do think KU is doing that.

That's why I consider this a case study. :) I stand ready to complain!

What a great first half of back and forth basketball and I always enjoy Gus Johnson doing play by play. Hopefully X can pull it out.

They don't look the best but we seem to play our best basketball while wearing them! Must be a little magic still in them from the old days
